Commercial Description:
Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

Pours darn brown with a tan head. Smells of roasted malt, some pepper, spicy, earthy, some dark fruity hints. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, some spicy hints.

Pours dark brown with dark tan head. Nose is band-aid, campfire, roast, burnt toast, dark chocolate, earth, and some booze. Flavor is same with dark chocolate and smoke dominating somewhat. Finish lingers with somke, roast, and a bit of campfire. Yellow lace all over the glass. A bit off-balance toward smokiness with hop and roast bitterness.

On tap @ Otto’s. Pours black with a small bubbly tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, alcohol and vanilla. Big full sweet flavor with a roasty and hop bitterness and a light alcohol taste. Full body with mild carbonation and a thick creay mouth feel. Very good Imp Stout, lots of hops and an excellent aroma and flavor.

Cask at brewery. Dark brown, light bubbly cream ring with an oily looking surface. Nose has strong alcohol (bourbon), licorice, light chocolate, and an odd smoke/burnt note. Light cardboard for possible oxidation. Flavor has more evident malt presence, still alcohol and licorice, and some minor dark fruit notes that come out of nowhere. Thin chocolate finish that ends quickly. Reminds of a messy GL BA Blackout with a couple of off-notes.

On draft at Otto’s Brewpub in State College, PA. This beautiful ale was served at the proper temperature in a tulip glass and had a thick brown head with dark brown body. Roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate dominated my taste buds and the aroma was that of toffee and roasted malt. A most delicious stout.

Pretty much black in color, thick deep brown Swedish pillow head. Nose is roasty, lactic, and chocolaty, with slightly boozy fumes, and notes of toffee and/or peanut brittle. Thick, mouth coating texture with sweet, sensuous toffee (health bar) and chocolate flavors. Sharply bitter and roasty, with the bitterness combining naturally with the chocolate flavors resulting in vivid bitter chocolate with a smidgen of lactic tang in the finish. Very warming, very big, very fulfilling. I bet with a year of age, this would be retarded good...that being said, it’s still pretty damn tasty.

22oz bottle thanks to CaptainCougar. Finally got around to breaking this out. Black with a small brown head. Big roasted grain and chocolate aroma with some dark dried fruit. The aroma has lots of dark chocolate but still comes off as pretty sweet and rounded, with just enough hop balance, but still falling on the malty side. Full bodied and smooth on the carbonation. Nothing really remarkable about it, but a well make and very rounded imperial stout that goes down very smoothly.
