Commercial Description:
Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

20070303 Growler? Big and black. Juicy, chewy, smoky dark chocolate. Resinous, bright, and very bitter stuff. In fact, it’s a bit harsh but that’s just lovely and yummy.

Bottle sampled with Mad_Indian. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, black malt, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor is sweet, chocolate, roasted malts, with a fair amount of hops in the finish. Good mouthfeel, hides alcohol weel. Exceptional brew.

This brew was brought to the fordest tasting (Jan, ’08) by wetherel and shared between fordest, padrefan98, toncatcher and of course wetherel. Thanks buddy.

Pours totally black with mocha head. The aroma is mild and a bit odd with hints of oxidation, roasty malts, some faint chocolate notes and licorice. I love the flavor. I get chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and hints of licorice. This is thick and rich and mildly warming. It has a very nice balance between the various notes. The roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and licorice all blend together seamlessly.

#500. Courtesy of Tronraner. Pours a dark brown with a creamy tan head. Lacing is noticeable. Aroma is mostly coffee. Tastes of milk chocolate, coffee, burnt grains, little smoke, and some hop presence. Palate is super creamy, with a slight alcohol burn. Enjoyed very much.

bottle from kramer1087. A nice brew, but a little too much smokey flavor for my liking. Chocolate background.

Thanks to Adrian for another mighty beer! This pours black as a stormy night with a rich, light brown head. The label displays a funny skull and crossbones. Why do so many beers have scary/spooky labels? I guess it appeals to the immature male mind. The aroma is full and sweet. Smooth mouthfeel and low carbonation. Strong coffee and hops flavors, but still plenty of malt sweetness too. This is balanced, chewy, and tasty - a strong, but not overwhelming stout. Nice work, Otto’s!

A pitch black pour with wisps of white head. Smokey aroma with milk chocolate burnt malt and a little anise perhaps. A very smokey body with more of that faint licorice amid the usual impy stout suspects. Creamy body.

Black pour, medium brown head. Aroma is smoke bigtime, licorice and chocolate. Flavor is very smokey, lots of licorice, anise, bittersweet chocolate, coffee and a big hoppy finish. Really a lot of smoke in here killing the other flavors. Body is a little on the thin side and almost undercarbonted thinness to it. Very aggressive with the smoke and just unbalanced but still not bad. Thanks to Kramer and Adrian for bonuses of this.
