Commercial Description:
Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

Very dark brown color. Mild aroma. Medium body; the taste is mild, more like a regular Stout and with too much sweet liquorice and paper flavor.

22oz bottle. Nearly opaque black pour with a thick reddish black pour leaving excellent sticky lacking down the glass. Decent, but not overpowering aroma of very lightly smoked malt, vanilla, milk chocolate and the smallest hint of alcohol. Flavor, too, is pleasant but not in your face. Creamy and rich on the palate. With notes of roasted malt, vanilla, fresh coffee, lactose, Nesqwik, alcohol and a touch of hop bitterness. A well balanced imperial stout without going over the top.

Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, mabel and tupalev, my bottle via trade with sirpsycho. thick black pour with a decent frothy-creamy mottled tan head. At first this one didn’t do much for me, but you know what? This is a damed fine beer - no gimmicks, just a good solid imperial stout. Aroma of chocolate malt, roast coffee beans, light minty herbal hops, alcohol, and some lactose. Taste followed, but a slight sour tang to it, well balanced between malt, alcohol and light finishing hop bitterness. Creamy, average mouthfeel and body, light carbonation, a whisper of acidity, and a medium-long creamy finish, not too sweet, not too bitter. Really, really good stuff.

Bottle. Black, creamy tan head. Modest aroma grows as it warms, bit of fruit, mild hint of roast, cocoa hints. (7+) Sweet malt flavour, dusty cocoa, very light fruit and roast malt hints. Light acidity to the finish, chocolate glimpses. Smooth average to medium palate (3+). Very nice, drinkable imperial stout but surprisingly mild.

Bottle shared with Jerc, Mabel, Hogtown Harry, and Blankboy, courtesy of Harry. Last beer of the night - great Christmas tasting guys! Black, small tan head. Nice aroma - very dry. Sweet as well. Greats taste, rich sweet dry malt, alcohol present and balanced. Complex yet drinkable. Very good.

Bottle thanks to Mike! Really good brew. Very thick pour with lots of dark fruits, chocolates, roastiness, and all sorts of other very nicely melded together flavors. Really comes together as it warms a little. The alcohol was not really present, and the mouthfeel and viscosity was right up there with the best of them. Thanks again!

A victory bottle for having bested Ryan at fantasy baseball this past summer...charcoal black body with a brown quarter-inch head in a snifter ...wonderful lacing as it drinks down...toasted malt with coffee and caramel notes...creamy and warm mouthfeel...a hint of alcohol (9.5%!?) and a lot of chocolate or syrup, in a good way...smooth and steady...the burn of alcohol leaves after three sips, replaced by a pleasant warmth...too smooth to be believed...I was pleased by their pilsner on draft (and the burger matched) but this indeed was a beer worth singular sipping...I’ll have to defeat Ryan more often...
