Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Date: 15/1/09 Beer info: Bottled in brown 375ml corked bottle 6.5% abv BB 23 11 2027 Sampling Notes: Served chilled in pilsner glass. Hazy rosy gold body, creamy white head that grows and grows. Cidery sort of nose, plenty of funk with notes of cheese, wheat cereal and hay, white wine vinegar. Bit of sweatiness in the background, very complex overall, hard to describe. Light body, effervescent carbonation almost like softdrink, vinegary mouth-pucking acidity without being all too drying. Very complex body, hard to nail down individual flavours; lemon pith, ripe mature cheese, sharp peppery spice, sweaty basil leaves, raw wheat husk, apple cider and vinegar. I could talk crap about what this tastes like, but it has a unique "barnyard", I guess you could describe it, but thats a very broad term. Champagne-like beer with a huge complexity. Maybe not as appealing as their Kriek I tried previously though.

cloud yellow, thick smooth white head. acid and sour aroma, balanced. nice faintly dry vineagra acid aroma. extremely dry flavor, wild fermentation (brett?) is clearly in the flavor. grapefruit. refreshing. faint sweetness, flavor is round and makes room for many interesting tidbids. one of the better gueue i’ve tasted.

Tasted 23/02/2008. Wee champagne bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits (I think, it has been in the fridge for a long time - maybe it was Beerstore). Friggin’ spectacular. Creamy spanish white head that last forever has me as suspicious as the guy who doesn’t get the joke. How can a geuze look this good? Rose gold. Passed the Fritha test outstandingly - that is, I gave Fritha a sip and she screwed up her nose saying "Fuck that is awful, there is taste in there I can’t describe but it shouldn’t be in anything I consume." Is there baryard I ask? "Yes, but it is goatier than goat". With my homebrew I take those sorts of comments as the ultimate compliment. The more she hates it, the more I love it. Besides Liefmans Kriek, which we’re both quite fond of (not quite enough to name our next son Liefman, but almost). Sour as all buggery but so so soft once it warms up a little vents its lambic anger.

Corked 12 oz bottle. Aroma is pleasantly tart, very attractive and makes my mouth water. Pour is one of the best; comes out slightly pale yellow and ends with swirling hypnotics. Nice tasty flavor of sour and bitter something. Creamy fine fizzing palate. Finish does have some bitter hops or something on the finish but it is controlled. Not sure if its winelike in the taste but it sure is not what most would think beer taste is. Other than that funky finish, a very good experience. Hides the 6% alky very well! Love those lambics!

Bottle: Clear red colur, with a thin head.(But in the end of the bottle, the colour was hazy and red) Aroma is sour, flowery and some citric in the end. Flavor is a nice mix of sournes/flowery mouth feeling, and a nice sour/fruity medium finish. A werry good and complex beer.
