Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Large cream head, lightly foggy amber. Aroma is a nice funk, horseblanket, light citrus. Taste is a mild funk, light sweetness in the background, grapefruit. Bland for the style.

Bottle, Red Zebra, Derby. Got a bit of a shock when I opened this fella, the cork exploded out of the bottle, flew 10 feet before hitting and knocking down a licence plate above a doorway then bouncing back another 12 feet before landing in a parsley plant. Certainly champagne like with the turbo popping cork. It poured a hazy straw like colour with a nice pillowy head. Aroma and flavour was apple tinged and classic lambic; barnyard, horseblanket etc etc . The sourness was a little more gentle than I was expecting, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Finished sour. Silver medal.

375ml - Aroma is funky horse blanket, sweet white grape, sour fruit and old cheese. Pours cloudy gold with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is similar to aroma with a little wood showing up instead of cheese. Lots of sour fruits. Palate is tart and sticky. Super tasty if you like the style.

The pour is like champagne, lots of carbonation, yellow appearance, hazy, large white head. The smell is sour, barnyard, yeasty. Sour flavor as well, again akin to champagne, sour fruits, a touch of lemony sweetness. Very dry on the finish, again like a dry champagne or sparkling white wine. (You see the constant comparison to champagne here.) Thin/medium mouthfeel. That carbonation first observed on the opening of the bottle does not really affect the palate as you might expect. This is my first venture into Gueze Lambics, partly as they are hard to come by here. I liked the novelty of this, but I wouldnt make this type of beer a staple.
