Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville. Very cloudy amber/orange pour with quite a few almost alarmingly large chunks. But then again, I like that. Bubbly off-white head that disappears fairly quickly, leaving a bit of foam. Lemony wood, yeast, and a bit of must on the nose, but quite drinkable. Not as tart as some that I’ve had, for sure. Similar palate as on the nose, with an added pear and apple notes. Also some vanilla and a leathery taste, and even a taste of a lemony leather cleaner. Great beer. Would love to age a few bottles. Re-tasted an older bottle recently, which was actually much clearer in consistency, and even better.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-07-11) Pale orange. Quite clear without yeast, turns hazy. Medium-sized white bubbly head that disappeared quickly. Sour and woody nose. Medium palate, turns dryish, bit carbonation, quite soft. Malts, sourness, wood, light bitterness, some sweetness, little bit vomit and fruitiness in taste. Very nice.

Orangish amber in color with a white light lacy head. Smell is of yeast, tart, fruity, and funkyness. Maybe a little young yet. Taste is sour, dry, almost spiced? Maybe its the wood coming though. Pretty good.

Bottle. Pours a translucent pale yellow with a lasting white head. The aroma is slightly skunky with some strong sour notes. It’s also quite yeasty in the aroma. The flavour isn’t as tart as I was hoping, though. The sourness is somewhat like a lemon or apple, but with yeasty qualities surrounding it. Some nice cheese notes especially in the finish. Dry sourness bursts a little in the finish as well as a light bitterness. This is pretty good.

Best by 1/26/2025! Copper viscous pour with fluffy white head and excellent lace. Lemon tart aroma. Tart green apples is the distinct flavor I’m getting. Nice dry finish!

Best by 2026! Yowzah, I’m not even close! Light yellowy with a thin white head. Sweet, very, for the style. A bit of oaky vanilla. Thin body, low carbonation. Not at all dry. Sweeter! Oak lingering tannins. Not too tart or sour at all. Lacking the bracing refreshing tartness a lambic should have. Maybe this needs a decade or two?
