Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Bottle. Pours a rich golden with a big fizzy white pillowy head. Leaves long rings of lacing down the glass. Aroma is complex with a slight barnyard note, a very tart citric character, some white wine notes. Doesn’t punch you in the face as being overly sour up front but presents a quite dry vinuous character. Very foamy character and a tart sour finish, fairly light bodied with a lively active carbonation.

Bottle. Another in my lambic education, still not too clued up on them at all. This one was nice enough but something in there not too my liking. Finish was almost soapy. Massive explosion on opening, very lively, orange with thin (close to) white head. Dry and tart. I didn’t dislike this at all but nor did it excite me in anyway. Perhaps I just need to learn more and drink more.

Pours orange with lots of carbonation. Fizzy. (Sparkling would be a more appropriate way to describe it I suppose.) Not as sour as I was expecting from the nose. Perhaps the bubbles cut down on that. I’m getting some straw Brett taste in there, but not much. I’m spontaneously fermenting as I drink this one. Light, crisp... nice. This is a great Geuze.

My first experience with geuze... interesting! I’m eager to try some more. Aroma wasn’t nearly as much farm or horse blanket as I thought it was going to be. Nice blend.

Pours a fairly clear gold color with a huge fluffy white head. Aroma is funk, lemons, grass, hay, and a something metallic. Taste is sour, funky and acidic -dominated by bitter grapefruit. Has a pretty sharp metallic bite in the (dry) finish. Highly carbonated with a light body and fizzy mouth feel.

Bottle. Pours pale yellow with a huge fizzy white head. Loads and loads of bubbles. Aroma is acidic and funky, metallic, dusty, hay, citrus and cheese. Flavour is of apples, wood, yeast, very vinous, champagne-like, sour citrus finish. Carbonation is high, body is light. Tasty.
