Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

Hazy copper with a rich foamy white head. Nose is slightly metallic, with notes of oyster mushrooms and wet rag (but in a good way!), and a bit of unripe pear. Mouth feel is medium bodied with a clean dry finish. Mouth has strong citric acid sourness and tastes a bit like green gooseberries and grapefruit pith. Underlying the sourness is a layer of funk which fades to musty as the finish dissapates. Not a beer for every night, but when the geuze-mood hits, this answers the call well. 062806 had again with seafood, a perfect compliment, was struck by the nice clean finish. Upping my rating a bit.

Hazy with huge lasting head. Tart, sour, lemony, citrus aroma, earthy, and barny. Complex, dry, peachy, grassy, with a nice sour balance. Nice and sharp but rounds out as it goes down. A very nice geuze.

This was something new and different for me. I had absolutly no idea what to expect when I cracked the bottle. Poured a golden colo, big white head. Aroma of sour apple, yeast. The mouth feel was great, kind of a sticky sour that just coated your mouth as it went down. This was my first real foray into unique belgian beers, up unitll this one I had only tried doubles, tripels, and quads from some of the well known brewers, but this really blew my mind.

375ml Bottle, Best By 26/01/2025

Golden/amber starts mostly clear (finishes mostly hazed) with a longstanding white head and persistent effervescence. Aromas are interesting but mostly unappealing: sour apple, armpit/funk, basement, Limburger cheese. (I still can’t understand high aroma numbers from raters that detect "barnyard" and "horse manure" scents as seen below & next page.) Acidic in nose, mouth & stomach. Fluffy mouthfeel. Starting with brief metallica, the flavor is thoroughly tart with some fruitiness and a dry, sometimes salty finish.

The beer after it pardon and decanting from the 375ml green bottle sets in the glass a beclouded deep amber with a portly and creamy light tan head, after its erosion, the lace forms a tight girdle upon the glass. Nose is that of a wet farmyard, grassy, musky, with a bit of sweetness backed by a citrus like tartness, start is lightly sweet with an immediate sourness at the back, the mouth feel light to medium. Finish is ferine in its acidity, the tartness lingers long, dry as a bleached desert bone and another excellent example of the Gueuze Lambic, a real treat I must say.

yummy. poured into a baileys glass--the closest thing i have to a tumbler. aroma of sour apple juice, and barnyard yeast--a smell i have grown to love. mouthfeel is champagne like but this beer has so much more going on than any sparkling wine i have ever tasted. more apples, yeast, acidity in the palate. absolutely delectable. very well balances and just a pleasure to consume.

Bottled at the Derby CAMRA summer festival 2005. It’s got everything going on; hazy body, exploding yeast in a farmyard for a nose, a sourness that dances across your tounge rather than turning your gums up. Best bottle of the day.

Apple juice coloured clear body with little acid, large creamy beige head. Strong apple, peach, peer, alcohol, leaves in the aroma. Sour flavour, fruits, cheese, vivid mouthfeel.
