Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

This thing hit me right when I popped the cork. My first impression was that the ’barnyard’ character is not joke. To say that it is sparkling is a major understatment. I poured the first bit in to my flute, and it was full of foam. It faded into one of the most crystal clear beers I’ve ever seen. The sourness is not too strong in the nose. I get more of the horse blanket/barnyard notes. There is also some ciderness in the nose and flavor for that matter. Absolutly bone dry, and quite puckering. A nice medium/light body. A nice surprise. I was expecting something pretty thin. Overall, a pretty good first geuze. There are a couple more at the store Il go to. I’ll try them also, and them come back here.

Bottle poured orange with a big white head and thick lacing. Aroma is yeast and citrus. Flavor is citrus and yeast and is very well ballanced.

Aromas of the fermantaion of a barnyard. Also detected a fermented fruit aroma like after they lay on the ground from falling off the tree. Darker shade of gold body with big frothy head. Blanket of lace covered glass. Flavor of a medium sweet and sour fruit that is better than some of the aromas described above. Little acidic on palate but not to bad.

2002. Aroma is truly the gamut of Gueuzeness, .....barnyard, wet blanket, leather, funky cheese. Clear apricot, tiny custard head. Flavour is softer than the aroma suggested, still very fine, sour fruitiness here. Sour/tart, medium bodied, lovely mouthfeel, dry yet refreshing. Fantastic! Amazingly this is best before 2022! Thanks mds!

Smell the wet hay and the barnyard wafting through the healthy, almost rocky head. First sip- I was surprised at the clean acidity with a dry tart taste that is like The Leelanau Brewing Company’s Whaleback White. I was pleased to realize that there are more beers like this out there. This style really sits well with me. It says it’s flash fermented in ’wooden barrels’ (oak?) but I tasted no oak. To the contrary there was almost a stainless metallic hint. Very winelike with vivid bitters- tart and dry. Very Good.

Wonderful aroma - strawberries, flowers, wet hay, barnyard, cotton candy, black pepper. Clear golden, dense off-white head. Flavor is quite sour, lots of fruitiness, a little musty, very dry finish. Medium body, just a bit of astringency. Reminds me of a crisp, dry white wine.

Amber orange color with tight white bubbles. The aroma tickles the nose. Devestatingly sour. Flavor is tough to nail down. There is some sour wiht a lot of musty easrthyness. Suprisingly easy to drink for how sour it smells.

Hazy body, yellow with a hint of orange with a generous head on top. The aroma is murky sweetness. Hints of lemon, green grapes and orange. These scents come off rather bitter, but are combatted with the musky scent of a barn after a warm rain. Tasting this really brings out the lemon bittersweet flavor at first. The aftertaste is more of a soft unimpressive malt. I don’t know about this one. It doesnt have the strong bitterness that might suggest a young age, but it doesnt have a strong complex flavor.
