Commercial Description:
Geuze is a classic among the Belgian Ales, following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old Lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Geuze Ale is the white sparkling wine of the ale world.

375ml bottle best by 20.04.2026, so I take it about 2 years old in the bottle. Pours a glowing golden with a nice frothy foamy white head. Aroma of hard candy, whipped cream, airy, dried grass, just a touch sour. Flavor is quite mild, subtle hard candy sweetness, only slightly tart and sour, some rough grain and grassy notes are noticeable, mellow vanilla, cream, seems like a fairly young lambic. Medium bodied with a hard candy feel and softer uniform medium fluffy carbonation. Fairly dry but not like the best gueuzes. A great beer but not a great lambic... something just isn’t quite there.

50cl bottle from Systembolaget. Batch L8303, Best before 2028-10-29. It poured a light golden colour with an enormous white foamy head that settled down fast in the glass. The aroma is dry and sour with notes of yeast and citrus. The flavour is like the aroma also dry and acidious. Notes of apples and citrus. A bit sour. It has a medium long aftertaste. Aroma and flavour is very reminiscent of a dry white wine or champagne. If you don’t like white wine you won’t like this Lambic.

Bottle. Slightly hazy golden with large white head. Mildly sour but drinkable and not that sour that some other beers of this type can be. Citrus. Dry. Reminds of a white wine. Thin to medium body. Nice gueuze and a good starter to tyhe world of gueuzes.

Poured moderately chilled from a compact dark green bottle that was topped by a cork and a wire cradle. Huge, white head quickly reduced to a thin layer. Misty golden body. Spotty lacing on the glass. Earthy smell with modest tartness. Taste of tart berries and lemony fruits on a tight, acidic backbone that lingers throughout the aftertaste. Bone dry palate. Slow drinking. Not actually an hour of joy, more an hour of learning to expand my tasting buds (Tromsø, 05.06.2009).
