The_Beer_God (2800), Newport News, Virginia, USA May 6, 2008 Growler. Dark copper pour with a nice sticky, foamy tan head. Spotty lacing. Aroma is wood, dark fruits, soft alcohol, caramel, sweet, chewy malts, brown sugar and pine sap. Taste is sweet malts, some spicy hops, pine, wood, soft vanilla, caramel, cocoa and brown sugar. Not really bourbonny at all. Body is creamy with light warmth. Some lingering hop bitterness. Soft aspirin during the finish with more hops, pine, wood, caramel, dark fruits, raisin, chewy malts and brown sugar. Very tasty. Alcohol is rather deceptive.
argo0 (6019), Washington DC, USA Mar 15, 2008 Hazy mahogany body with small beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry, caramel, some raisin. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, raisin, some chocolate, cherry, light vanilla. Mild "Bourbon" effect, thank goodness. Alcohol evident but complementary rather than overpowering. Smooth full body. Much more a British-style BW than an American one. DrBayern (882), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Nov 6, 2007 Draft at OUter Banks Brewing on 11/02/07. Served in a large brandy snifter, showing a creamy small to medium head over a deep brown body with some tawny accents at the edges. Light brown sugar, dark fruity, spruce, spice, and of course some subtle bourbon and woody notes. Lightly carbonated and quite smooth, went down easily with some residual chewiness. Flavor is dominated by a dark malty sweetness and the softest of bittering. Alcohol seemed well disguised throughout.
