ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Jan 15, 2009 Nice one to sit by the fire with, and excellent for a Brewpub Dubbel. A welcomingly warm ale. Rich and fruity with a slight malty and caramelly complexity. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Dec 22, 2007 Bottle shared with Fly, Dewbrewer, Humulone Red and others. Thanks guys!
Pours a glowing orange with no head. Funky nose reminiscent of gooey band-aids. Odd taste with sweet guaze like flavor. No carbonation and this one just wasn’t for me. richlikebeer (823), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA May 16, 2005 thanks to lou18 for the bottle, deep brown color, foamy tan head, sweet malt nose, bits of spices. flavor was sweet caramels with a good dose of maybe anise and corriander. spices make up most of the aftertaste as well. a nice belgian barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA May 15, 2005 bomber from Lou18. pour is a deep gold with a very lively frothy white head. aroma and flavors are of sweet candy sugar, bread dough and some floral hops. this was a highly carbonated brew and may have been better if I had let it age a while longer. still a nice Belgian style beer, thanks Lou for sending it my way! jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA May 14, 2005 Bottle thanks to Richlikebeer. Dark amber color with a medium sized tan head. Sweet malt aroma with a bit of coriander and raisins. Flavor was also sweet with the fruit coming out even more. A little less sweet and I would have enjoyed this more. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA May 12, 2005 05.07.05 Thanks to someone at Heavyweight openhouse. Dirty amber-gold pour, creamy head. Sharp and sticky, maybe even schticky. Interesting mix of apricot and grape, savory spice, pepper. Lingering tart fruits. hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 8, 2005 Poured medium with a smaller sized light tan head. Aromas and tastes of spices, cinamon, candi sugar, dark fruits and light yeast. Lightly sweet. Fizzy body. Reminded me more of a dubbel than a Belgian Strong Ale. thefatmanrocks (22), California, USA Jan 23, 2005 I just got back from Pacific Coast (oakland brewery), and brought home a bottle of their new holiday beer. I had it last night and enjoyed it, but, unfortunately, I had it after I was near black-out...(I love their leviathan, toooooooo much)...I do remember the brewer, a very nice guy I always shoot the shit with, saying "let me know what you think. And watch out! I used a little champagne yeast; so open it slowly and away from your face." I do remember, lots of lacy bubbles, good head, strong candy flavor ("sweet tart" esque), noticable alc, but no need for an eye patch.
