Commercial Description:
Arch-Angel is a Belgian style tripel. The ales are very strong beers which still have a light finish unlike other strong ales with deep malt profiles. The hop bitterness is also rather light, as the beer uses spices and herbs to balance the finish. The uses of Grains of Paradise (a pepper) and sweet gale for finishing.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at the microbrewery on January 3, 2006 and sampled on January 12, 2006. Though there was a tad of a "psst" upon opening the cap - this beer pours somewhat flat no-matter the angle of one’s pour? The liquid is a deep orange-amber with minute sediment and the faintest of carbonation (sparse, tiny bubbles up the centre of the glass). The nose is banana and bready - with an undertone of flat hefe? An oily texture and thick mouthfeel give this more the sense of a Quad than a Tripel - though the sweetness and ABV are not a foregone conclusion. I enjoy the flavour but it does take me back to the hefeweizen of a couple of days ago - where the yeast was non-existant and the expired wheatiness left one scratching their head. I’d like to sample a fresher bottle in the future to compare.

Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a medium brownish color ale with a small dirty white bubbly head with limited retention and no lacing. Aroma of sugar and light spices leavers me a bit on my appetite. Taste is quite sweet for the style with some brown sugar feeling with some light spices in the background. Body is slightly watery with almost no carbonation. I would never have figure out I was drinking an Abbey Tripel had it not been for the description on the bottle. Defintely lacking in complexity and probably one of the worst beer from this brewery which usually provide great beers.

Clear dark amber ale with a thin lacing white head. Strong alcohol, with pleasant fruity esters, spices, coriander, and oranges, pleasing. In mouth, a good classic sweet caramel malt with coriander, warming alcohol, light hopping, and medium body. Overall, this was quite nice. Bottle from Sherril C. in Spring 2006.
