CapFlu (3273), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jan 14, 2006 (650ml bottle) Purchased at the brewery on January 3, 2006, and sampled on January 14, 2006. Pours a small, caramel-brown, creamy head with an opaque body. An overwhelming aroma of fresh coffee grounds is only broken with a stream of unsweeted chocolate upon deep searching. The thick and somewhat frothy body is neither gritty nor oily. Flavours of hazelnut, brown sugar, nutmeg and a pound of coffee and chocolate make this an excellent porter. Again, this brewery may just be the finest producer of opaque beers north of the 49th parallel.
piscator34 (905), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jun 19, 2008 Bottled sample via paco. Near black in colour with low to medium carbonation. Aromas are of chocolate extract, cherry pits, and a bit of English hops. More chocolate in the mouth, along with some roasted malts, vanilla, and pale malts. Somewhat watery in the mouth, but with a fair bit of roast on the finish. Not bad, but I was expecting more. Storm (2677), Amager, Denmark Jan 20, 2008 Bottle. Dark allmost black colour with a little head. Great aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavour of coffee, roastedness and ends up sour, but in a harminie way, ends up bitter and dry. Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2007 Very dark brown. Rich dark chocolate, molasses, malt aroma. Soft, yet chewy malt character with dark chocolate notes. Lots of roast. Slightly watery finish tempers this. Sammy (3041), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 4, 2007 Dark chocalate with white head, and chocolate in aroma. Middling mouthfeel, bittersweet taste with drying finish. Quite good porter. Lubiere (3231), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 12, 2007 A deep dark porter with a thick moka head. A aroma of freshly ground coffee bean and bitter chocolate, wonderful. In mouth, a dry bitter chocolate with coffee grinds, light aicidity points, with a rich sustained bitterness. Wow! Thanks to Pintbypint for this one.
