Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 20, 2006 I’ve been looking forward to this beer for a long time - and it didn’t disappoint me - even though I don’t give it 4+. Unfortunately it has slipped out of the Top 50 before I sampled it ;-)
A muddy brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is lovely sour combined with woody notes. The flavor is quite complex with notes of berries - especially cowberries, wood, and light notes of red wine on a lovely sour background. Very nice - but I’d like higher carbonation, since I think that would bring out even more nuances from this nice brew. omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 13, 2006 [Bottled, thanks MrWalker!] Cloudy mahogany colour- Aroma of coffee and sour cherries. Tart and really roasty. The body is firm, but given it’s size impressively slender. Wood is evident, as is the vinegary acidity. Falvourwise it’s not far off Cuvée de Tomme, but less potent and more drinkable. A wonderful beer! Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 20, 2006 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of sk8viking. Pours an almost unclean orangey brown with a creamy, beige head. Tart nose with distinct oaky touches. Medium body, fantastic complexity between acidity, oak and yet still an underlying, caramelish sweetness. Sour to the extent that it challenges and teases my taste buds but never kills them. A true pleasure. 170406 Oakes (6819), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 27, 2006 Reddish brown colour. Major oaky aroma, slight tart cherries. Bright, fruity, voluptuous. The flavour follows suit with lots of bright oakiness and deep cherry. Slightly creamy body. A mature, refined brew. joergen (6240), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 27, 2008 Bottle.
