Aroma of hearty wheat and barley malt, light twang, subtle spice, bread crust, and lightly zesty yeast. Same flavor on the grains, more spice, some light fruits, less twang, same bready elements and yeast zest. Medium body is softly carbonated for a wit, balanced, easy to drink. Very cloudy appearance - obviously I’d expect a Belgian style Wit to be hazy but this was more sludgy. Despite Phil L’s protestations, I didn’t really find anything to suggest that this was over the hill. I would probably expect more spice and less farmyard funk from a Wit, but funk isn’t a problem for me (even if it is not supposed to be there). Not as arresting or distinctive as some of Panil’s other offerings but interesting, and certainly not unpleasant, nonetheless.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 9, 2009 Handsome foiled bottle from Enoteca Bonatti. Thick uneven snowdrift head over full apricot haze. Immediately Belgian funk, farmyard and sweet manure aroma with cutting lemon and lily- more saison or Westy blond than witbier. Lemony funky edge, encloaking lily, pig crap, lemon barley, honey dabbed biscuits and cereals, wheat, sickbowl floaties, barrels. Pleasant and characterful. ricksivrea (10), Ivrea, Italy

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2008 A pale yellow blanche with a thick creamy white head. A pleasant citrus and catnip aroma, homebrew like, but good. In mouth, a crisp catnip wit with light banana notes, a bit muddy, light wild fermentation. Not bad. Bieropholie import, bottle is about 1 year old. Ungstrup (15275), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Oct 5, 2008 Bottled. A hazy light golden beer with a lazing white head. The aroma is sweet with citrusy and dusty notes of hops. The flavor is sweet citrusy with a light note of acidity, leading to a dry bitter and citrusy finish. harrisoni (6828), Ashford, Kent, England

Phil_l said it was probably too old to get a rating out of it. To me it had the same problem as some of the other Panil beers. Yes it has some decent sourness, but they really do have to stop putting several hundred yards of wooden fencing in the copper when they do their boil!!!! At least there wasn’t any creosote on this one.
