(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours a cloudy, orangey brown with a tall, off-white head leaving some lacework. Aroma of roasted malts and yeast. Rather full-bodied with plenty of roasted malt and fruit and a whiff of yeast. Rather subdued bitterness with a vague, underlying tartness. 270707

Bottled. A hazy brown beer with a big and long lasting head. The aroma is very malty and roasty with notes of nuts and caramel. Sweet taste with milk chocolate, nuts and fruitiness. Very malty beer with some sourness and a roasty touch. The hop presence is very light. A true to style and well made abbey dubbel

50 cl bottle via Lubiere, shared with Phil, served at cellar temp. in a tulip glass. MR31/07.

App.: Murky orange-brown, large, foamy tan head. Aroma: Spicey, soft acids, some pome and dried dark fruits, light citrus, floral honey. Palate: Medium body, fairly soft carbonation, a bit powdery. Flav.: Spicy, citrus, a bit of alcohol, slightly sweet, molasses and dark fruits, a little dirty.

Nice stuff.

The beer jumped-out of the bottle as I opened it. Bad sign. Cloudy copper-burgundy body toped by a short lived off-white head that is just a bunch of big bubbles. Nothing creamy there. Looks suspicious. My suspicions were founded. Obvious signs of oxidation, not totally ruined but still pretty damaged. It’s not an age problem, it’s a fresh batch we got through private importations and my friends all had good bottles from the same batch. Despite the oxidation I drank half the bottle because I could feel some of the flavours that were supposed to be upfront. For now I’ll rate the only bottle I had but I hope to come across another one for a proper evaluation. That’s just my luck, one bad bottle in the batch and it’s mine. How bad lucky am I? The Canadian government recently published a statistic saying that in Canada a man gets struck by lightning every day. That man is me.
