-Luxurious foam lingers over the gleaming orange burgundy, drawing impressive lacing.
-Timid cocoa sweetness rises with its bready yeast counterpart for a peaceful aroma.
-The soothing flavor profile offers cocoa shavings over leaking caramel and berry fruitiness.
-The pillowy maltiness and large, soft bubbles create an authentically Belgian mouthfeel.
What if you dig deeper?
-Herbal hops dry up the finish, just before sweet cocoa quietly returns.
-Mild roastiness can be found within the fitting yeast signature.
-There is no sign of the brettanomyces that Rastacouere had in his bottle.
-This is quite simply a well-crafted, completely authentic Belgian-style Dubbel.
Bottled in May ’05. Rastacouere (5559), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 5, 2006 Spectacular pour. A nuclear off-white head tops the opaque chestnut hue. It slowly diminishes, leaving generous lacing all around the glass. Unexpected nose which can’t really be voluntarily. Brettanomyces triumphed in teir insatiable sugar quest. Hypothetically, the proximity to barrels of the Panil Barriquée have eased their hunger’s aspirations, but the nose is kind of vinous, wild mushroomy, plummy, yet moderately juicy. Obviously quite dry in mouth, letting musty basement and light papery/inky mettalic off tones dominate the otherwise fruity, cherry-like esters and mildly roasted malts with vanilla undertones. Finishing with strong moldy, cobwebs like dustiness. The mouthfeel has interestingly not suffered much from the bacteria, it remains medium-full and natural, filling thanks to a rich and not too agressive carbonation. What can I say, sometimes an infection is a trait I enjoy in beer. I would(will) drink again. Phil (100), Kent, England

A refreshing beer, you don’t feel the 7,5%, but it has done its job drawing out all the flavour. A bit too carbonated, perhaps, so you have to let it calm down a bit. fiulijn (7330), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 15, 2005 Dark brown in colour, with ruby shines and a huge, persistent head. Aroma is fruity first, with cherries notes, then roasty of coffee. Flavour is mostly characterized by roasted hints, with a medium hoppy finish. Medium to high carbonation and medium bodied. A good dubbel, as for me. Aldrighetti (162), Coltura, Italy
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 18, 2004 Bottled. Fizzy, brownish head, mostly lasting, clear dark brown colour, with dark red highlight. Dark chocolate-bitter cocoa powder, mild coffee aroma, strange "metallic" aroma, strong yeasty (yeast cake in fermenter vessel), wet cardboard, wet mouldy cellar. Taste is light sweet, light bitter, metallic. Light to medium, thin body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation.
No, I don't like it... I think Panil brews a marvellous strange beer (Barriquee) and its other products cannot compete with that one.
