I did like this beer and I saw no actual flaws with the beer. It was very much like the Four Peaks brewery Raj IPA combined with their traditional American-style IPA. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 1, 2006 Draught @ Papago. Dominant grapefruit aroma and fresh hop aroma. Dark gold/orange body with decent head. Flavor is like getting a can of grapefruit juice from grocery store without the acidity. Light bitterness and a good refreshing beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2006 On draught at Papago: Pours to a mostly clear copper-golden amber colored body, with the lightest presence of haze. Head is small-medium, white, initially creamy & thick, though it fades to nothing within a few minutes. The aroma clearly shows fresh, juicy, wet hops. I smell grapefruit (though not in the usual dry/rind smell, more of a juicy pulp scent), orange, pine, berries, tons of juicy, ripe, floral hops coming through in the nose. The taste is bitter, though almost less bitter than I would expect from the nose, but then many of these wet-hopped ales tend to be that way. Much more floral and citrusy than bitter hops come through in the taste - grapefruit (again more juicy pulp than dry & bitter rind), very fresh citrus hops, not as much grassy hops as I’m used to in these which is actually a plus as it tends to highlight the more floral and citrus flavors outright. This one also has a clear malt profile that make it somewhat stand out from the crowd here. I pick up some nice chewy crystal malts, hints of light caramel, bread, and biscuit, and there’s even a slight yeast character here too - giving off a slight diacetyl flavor which I’m not sure if it’s due to using an english ale yeast strain of simply a diacetyl problem in the keg. Either way it’s complimentary to the overall flavor profile and not excessive here. Medium bodied, moderate, light carbonation, with the chewy malts making a mild presence felt throughout. goldtwins (4085), Nesconset, New York, USA
