bigbeersrule (58), USA Feb 22, 2008 Papago has two beers using the same name. WTF is up with that? They make a chai tea bierplezier and a black cherry bierplezier. It is actually the same base beer with different spices/extracts added to each individual keg from what I understand.
The black cherry was slightly sweet but not to the level of Lindemans. The chai tea definently was spicy, plenty of cardomon and ginger. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2008 8th Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines. WTF? Beer and chai? Pours clear light yellow with an average, rocky, off-white head, diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, hay, straw), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of butter, honey and tea. Light bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. ajm (903), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 1, 2008 Is it simple? Yeah. Too simple? Maybe. But you know what? They call it a dark cherry Belgian Dubbel and that’s exactly what it is. Bullseye. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA Dec 19, 2007 Cloudy yellow with thin white head.
Aroma and flavor of peach, sweet fruits and a tart spiciness on the finish that made for a good, easy drinking beer. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 11, 2007 Sampled on draught at the Papago Brewing Company tavern in Phoenix, AZ. Pours a semi-clear golden pale brew with a creamy white head that has some good lacing and retention. Aroma of a yeasty wheat malt, some tart berry character, flowery hops and a touch of spice. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of yeast, wheat malt and some tart cherries. Finish is slightly smooth, semi-sweet and then a yeasty aftertaste. It’s a different type of fruit/herb beer. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Oct 28, 2007 Fresh from the tap, it pours a somewhat hazy gold with a brilliant white creamy crown, as it fades to nothingness, the fine a fine coat upon the glass. Your schnozzle is greeted with a nice malt sweetness; followed by a deep earthy mustiness, unbaked sour dough bread comes to mind, hint of hop flowerers, spicy. Start is rich in malt, sweet with a Belgian yeast and hop bite at the back, top is medium in feel to the palate. Finish has a determined acidity, the hops perfect in their spiciness, very dry long lasting aftertaste. Apparently, this was to be a Belgium Blonde, some kind of faux paux ensued, and this beer has met some sort of resistance with the patrons at my most favorite "Pub", well "up yours" public, because I liked it! (Just kidding about the "up yours"). Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 24, 2007 Tap @ Papago. Light spicey mustard aroma. Yellow body with white head. Flavor was sweet and somewhat juciy with a starchy yeast in the mix. Left the palate with a starchy dry aftertaste. This was an odd beer to say the least. Also sat in the gut for awhile. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Oct 21, 2007 had this beer error on tap @ papago. i guess the recipe went bad and they tried to fix it and sell it anyway...golden color with orange tints and a small white head. smells belgianish. like a saison with peaches, chai, oranges and yeast. flavor is nothing like the aroma. it’s definitely belgian but it has a lager corn quality with yeast. dry herbal bitter finish. light bodied with medium carbonation. glad i didn’t pay for this one...
