hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jul 29, 2008 note that this is no longer brewed as a porter but it still carries the same name at the pub...
three times i’ve had this have as a fruit beer have been the same. cask... hazy gold with red tints. no head and plenty of sediment at the bottom of the glass. the aroma is very mildly tart fruit/cherry, yeasty, dry woody and some cheesiness starting to root. the palate is quite dry. actually, there is barely any sugar left in it whatsoever. the flavor is just barely starting to funk out, dry woody, really cherry-ish and a bit cheesy. slightly tart, bitter (wood) and dry finish. awfully bland... like it’s been watered down. medium body with a mineral-y texture.
seems like they’re rushing the yeast and not let it do it’s job funkdafying the brew. what’s the old cliche... "a watched pot never boils"? it progressively gets drier and more tart every time it resurfaces but nowhere near where it could or should be... rustychiles (997), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 14, 2008 Had this one twice, once under papago name and once at flagstaff made in the shade beer festival at the sonoran booth. Aroma is chery, sour, earthy. Flavor is sour, cherry, wood. Definitely not a porter as classified here. Interesting fruit beer. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Apr 14, 2008 (Draught) Pours a hazy deep amber body and a spare beige ring for a head. Aroma of cherry, dry oak, earthiness, and caramel.. Flavor of wood, cherry, black pepper, and light toasted grain with a subtle bitterness in the finish. Should be classified as a fruit beer. Steib (574), Queen Creek, Arizona, USA Feb 28, 2008 Nice dark reddish color. Interesting combo of cherry and porter. A not too rich taste from the porter aspect but a distinctive sweet cherry flavor. Has a tart taste thets hard to putdown and pin down. Has some notes of a stoudt. Creamy and smooth. Worth another visit. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 12, 2007 The sweetest porter you ever had! A great milky dark color and a very fluffy caramel/nougat head. Flavors of milk chocolate and black cherries; almost no coffee. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA Feb 27, 2007 Black with thick brown head and lacing.
Big roasty malt and coffee aroma and flavor with hints of cherrys. Nice heavy body with a sweet creamy finish. More like a stout than a porter.
Thanks Bockyhorsey ! Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 27, 2007 Growler. Aroma was roasty and had coffee notes also. Black body with tan head. Good roasty malt chocolate flavor with a creamy body texture. Also some what appeared to be a cola carbination in there as well. Left a cherry wood aftertaste on palate. Good brew.
