GABF 2005. DiscoForever (69), Dunedin, New Zealand

Rich, dense fruity raisin and sweet prunes aroma with alcohol notes too. Looks great in it’s tulip with a creamy tan head over a sherry-like dark ruby red. Body is syrupy yet light and creamy smooth - like a liqueur. The taste is sweet, with no sharp alc burn but a pleasant heat from realms below - devil’s temptation indeed. Rich fruit (drunken prunes) and seductive over the tongue. There’s a late choc hint as well. Jenee, my fience - and not a big beer drinker, would happily slurp this all evening. Masterful. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 18, 2005 Off-white ring tops the clear orange-golden hue. A complex fruitiness (pear, grape, banana, melon) reminds of the great wheat beers, but you cant be mistaken with this well disposed grassy hoppiness. The overlying malts are caramelic, bready with pleasant brownsugar undertones. Restricted bitterness accentuates the vinous feel, so does the light carboantion and light-medium body. Well done, just not very exciting.
