Fantastic, For a 8% Double IPA the beer had a light body but did it pack a wallop with a reported 100 IBU’s. Remember in the movie The Right Stuff where they talk about pushing the envelope back, this is what Papago tries to do with all their beers. There is nothing common or average among them. If you are a HOPHEAD you’ll love the Hopfather.

Initial taste is like herbal hop medicine. Almost a smooth hop bitterness, soothing and sweet. The finish is near perfect, dry and long. Golden amber in color, nice head. Hops just explode on the tongue, a decent amount of maltiness, but this is not meant to be a malty beer. One of the better Imperial IPAs I’ve tasted. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 7, 2006 On tap at Papago Brewing: Beer arrives in the glass with a really nice apricot color and a totally retained creamy, off white head. Arom is large, citric hoppy aroma with some malt in the background. Flavor is that of a hop monster. Really bitter, fresh, juicy hops, some grapefruit juice in the finish. Mouthfeel is nicely cabonated with smooth edges and is a bit oily. Overall this is a very enjoyable double IPA in the league of Exponential Hoppiness for my money. Totally unbalanced and wonderful. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

The bitterness was not citrus and it wasnt floral it was just hardcore straight bitter. Great beer. PHXHOPLOVER (50), LAVEEN, Arizona, USA

Not sure it is deserving of the title of an imperial ipa because of the gravity, but it certainly has the hop profile of a dipa. Good body to back it up too. Very drinkable. On tap at Papago in Tempe. One of the best beer selections in the Phoenix metro area!!! beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA

This Imperial IPA pours a medium orange color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is orange and piney hops. A medium bodied 2x IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity and citrusy with a touch of pine. A medium to highly bitter IPA. Lots of orange and citrus highlights throughout this beer. Good balance. Nice carbonation. Juicy hops. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter.
