Commercial Description:
A light drinking session beer. Belgium candi sugar makes it more full bodied than other low alcohol beers. Dark golden color.

On tap at papago. Pours a nice light orange-lemon color with a nice head. Mild malt to caramel aroma. Light to sweet flavor, somewhat full-bodied. Flavor is a little drab, Light notes of fruit and sugar. Ends on the palate a mellow hoppiness, the alcohol finally comes through. A decent brew, but is it an abbey?

warm, red apple pie aroma...yeast, fruit and sugar. flavor is vinous...probably from the alcohol, woody, malty and sweet with vanilla. full bodied and almost creamy. has a strange sourness on the finish that i can’t describe.

At the 2007 Big Beer, Belgians, & Barleywines Festival in Vail. Opaque amber with an off-white head. Strong alcohol nose. This is a great beer with massive fruitiness collapsing onto a sturdy malt backbone. Has an incredibly long finish of caramel, bitterness and aromatic fruits.

Draft at Papago. Clear orange-brown color with an off white head that laced the glass. Smelled of clove, light brown sugar, white wine, and pear. Sweet on the tongue. Flavor is less complex and dominated by malt which imparts a distinct brown sugar flavor. There was a warm splash of alcohol at the end. Not bad, but didn’t completely live up to its billing as an abbey ale.

Poured an orange-brown color with a nice intial head, good retention, good lacing. The aroma was bubblegum and light caramel. The flavor was bubblegum, soap suds, some spiciness, but really lacking other Belgian qualities of dark fruits, candi sugar, yeast, etc... Alcohol was also rather sharp and perhaps this one was a bit on the astringent side of things. Not a great example of the Belgian style.

Tap @ Papago. Had an over ripe apple aroma. Amber body with small head and some lacing. Surpy body texture with a moderate cherry, plumb and slight spice for flavor. Easy on the palate a smooth not over sweet brew.

I can’t believe that the owner Ron can keep coming up with incredible new beers like this. This beer is a light amber color. Starts out on the sweet side with good caramel flavor and ends with a nice bitter, dry finish. Lots of Belgian character. The beer is said to be one of the few brewed in the U.S. with liquid Belgian candy sugar syrup. Most brewers use rock candy. Ron told me that he knows of only two other places who have tried using the syrup, Russian River and Chama River. It really made the beer very drinkable and one that is way to easy to quaff down.
