This is an impressive german hef. It’s less sweet and creamy than Widmer Brothers and has more ’beer taste.’ The head is one of the most impressive sights to behold - thick like foam on top and glistening on the bottom.

6/10/01: One of my top 10 beers for sure, and certainly the best weiss-beer type; got turned onto this by a beer novice, actually, at a Bennigans of all places (great with a Monte Cristo, mmmm); I think he's less of a novice now. One of the best-smelling beers, too.

4/18/02: beautiful cloudy amber, with huge lasting head; awesome nose of banana/chocolate, citrus, apples, and yeast. Flavor almost as wonderful, ultra-malty for a wheat; but perhaps doesn't have enough 'edge' to it -- could use a bit more carbonation, a bit more oomph in the finish. I've been slowly going through a lot of my pre-Ratebeer faves lately; this one holds up quite well, though probably not a top-ten all-time anymore. Best German wheat, still a possibility.

4/15/03: still loving it, love the sweetness on this one, and it does have a powerful nose, but gotta knock a couple of points, I've just had so many better beers and German Wheats are not at the top for me any more. This is, however, one of the best. A rare beer that is worth savoring but also very easy to pound in large quantities.

(Rating #149)

very nice aroma with a hint of ripe bananas; cloudy, medium amber with a medium white head; very smooth with a nice refreshing taste, which also has just a bit of ripe banana; one of the best Hefeweizens I've tried

I got this one in the 1 pint 9 oz brown Euro style bottle with a lovelly landscape label. Appearance: Nice sunshine orange witha very good haziness.A good sized solid creamy white head that lingers long. Good looking strings of carbonation rise to the top..nice looker. Wow what an aroma, strong banana scents linger with fresh bread wondeful , makes the American Hefes smell like wimps!! I can tatse immediatlly bananas, apples and even a touch of cherry in this. Also can taste some hop bitterness at the end. This beer is fairly crisp with a dry finish. Pretty crisp , well carbonated..good but have had better mouthfeel from other kinds of beer. Like most Hefe-Weizens, I found this beer very drinkable..a nice ale!

Bottle - Nice banana and clove aroma - spicier than most. Cloudy orange/tan color - very pretty. Spicy flavor with subtler banana and citrus. This is one of the more consistent Weizens that tastes as good in the states as it does in Germany. The one I’m drinking now doesn’t seem as strong tasting as it usually does.
