Lubiere (3144), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 5, 2008 A pale golden lager with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet honey and yeast, clearly oxidized. In mouth, good malt with light german hops, definite signs of oxydation, cloying sweetness and chalky final. Bottle is one year old. BB 08/07
ericandersnavy (81), denton, Texas, USA Jul 12, 2008 bottle. poured clear amber with a thin cream colored head. retention was ok, could be better. aroma favored caramel with a slight citrus. flavor was caramel with some hop bitterness in the end. a bit watery though. v64 (53), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 4, 2008 Amber in appearance, small head. Strong malty aroma. A bit too hoppy to taste for a Maerzen, in my opinion. It’s not as sweet compared to others either. Some carbonation. Not a bad beer, but there are others of this style that are better. hop_lover (101), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Jun 11, 2008 Amber in color with a rich creamy head, and a smooth, lightly hopped flavor. D_malone102 (57), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 6, 2008 This tastes oxidized and skunky, even for an import. I love octoberfests in general, and I know a lot of people enjoy this beer, so maybe I got an extra old one.
The color is a nice amber, good for the style.
There is a good malty flavor under the oxidation, but The hop character might be a tad too much for the style.
pojo41 (275), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jun 6, 2008 Bottle. Poured a copper color with a fluffy off-white head. Very nice malty aroma. No real hop character in the aroma. Good flavor of malt with a touch of sweetness. Not as sweet as some maerzen beers. I thought this was a very good beer.
