fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Apr 7, 2005 Dark color, nice creamy head. Light cheesy aroma, some roasted malts, yeast. Some roasted malts flavor, with a light sourness and yeast. Unbalanced, raw. Sammy (3928), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 22, 2006 Bar Volo. A dark beer with off-white head. A bit of chocolate malt, otherwise astringent sourish with some malting offset though not bitter. The roastedness added to the astringency and I suppose it cries for lasagna accompaniment. Relatively Good aroma though.
HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 4, 2006 Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy, tupalev, Dave B, and R++ - courtesty of R. Poured cloudy dark brown with a smallish beige-brown head. Nice roasty aroma, smokey, with an interesting salty/sour olive character and light very dry hops. Salty and tart fruit taste, the dry hops are more forefront, but this is big malt and decently roasty - mouthfeel is jangling tastes vying for attention, overall dry, astringent, average body - really interesting but I think needs balancing - or identity. Radek Kliber (3912), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Nov 19, 2006 Bottle.(Volo)
Pours dark brown with large fine white top.
Slightly sour, grainy nose, fruity rich back drop with light hint of lactose.
Medium bodied, acidic coffee, dark roasted malt character in the middle, a bit flat at finish helped with good dose of clean alcohol.
jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 29, 2006 Bottle. Very dark brown with a moderate creamy tan head. (3+) Sweet malt aroma with light notes of acidity. Light dry malt in the flavour with a light hint of green apples, fairly sour undertones are a bit off-puting. Average to thin palate is effervescent. Meh. blankboy (3156), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 2, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev, R. & more -- courtesy of R. Pours brown with a small diminishing tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, fruit and yeast. Flavour was quite odd, it’s malty but I have to agree with ’fiulijn’ it’s unbalanced and I had a hard time picking it apart. Better then their Red beer but still not to my liking. KnutAlbert (3101), Oslo, Norway Oct 30, 2007 Bottle from a tutta Birra.
Very full flavour, toasted malt, some soot, some discreet sweetness. I would not mind another! DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Oct 6, 2006 Fruit? and candied malt aroma, dark brown, red at the sides, pours a small long lasting cream head. Tastes of pit fruit, sour, sweet. Unique, really fine!
