(12oz bottle, best by 9/07) Rocky beige head with nice lacing atop dark amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, nutty, caramel, light roast. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some nut, earthy. Light-medium body, faint acidity. Is this the amber or the brown?

Bottle… Clear amber ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. The nose wafts sweet notes of cookie, English biscuit and praline. Medium-bodied with stinging carbonation. The flavor is sweet, nutty and toasted. Crisp, lightly bitter, dry finish.

Cherry wood color with a aged canvas colored head. Aromas of caramel and mild hazelnuts. A hint of light fruit in the background as well. Quite thin and somewhat fizzy in feel. A dry nutty flavor. Not much sweetness in this one. Watery finish and a dry vapid linger, ok a little nuttiness, but not much depth.

Bottle from State Line. Deep copper pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, honey, hops, mild brown sugar. Tastes caramel malty, with brown sugar notes, plus hops and a finishing maple syrupy flavor. Fresh tasting, but not terribly complex.

12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington, VT (October 2007), served a bit above fridge temperature from a Unibroue glass. Pretty looking beer, actually, with gorgeous snowflake-patterned lacing thick in the glass as the off-white, creamy meringue head subsides slowly above a translucent dull brassy body....nose is slightly nutty and pungent with a bit of cedary hop character but also, alas, more than a trace of the usual diacetyl associated with this brewery....the body is brown-sugar accented at the front, but quickly grows dry, bitter, and dusty by midpalate, with some earthy hoppiness helping to save the day towards the finish, but still on the whole a dull and somewhat unpleasant experience....carbonation is appropriate; easily the best of the three "Peak Organic" beers, but still not very good.
