Commercial Description:
A robust amber ale brewed with locally roasted, organic fair trade espresso. The espresso is a dark Sumatran blend, which adds a toasty character in the front palate. This plays nicely off the sweet malty flavors found on the back palate of this amber ale. * Espresso is Maine roasted in collaboration with local hand-crafted roaster Coffee by Design in Portland. * In partnership with Transfair, a non-profit that works towards giving farmers and farm workers a livable wage and supporting efforts to sustain environmental stewardship in the communities. * This is the first Fair Trade Certified™ beer brewed in the United States. http://www.peakbrewing.com/

This sounded like an odd concoction, and it lived up to expectations. Cask at Churchkey. Very cloudy copper colored with no head to speak of. Aroma of dilute Starbuck’s. Taste was pretty similar, light coffee. No balance, no complexity.

Deep copper tinted amber coloured body with a very nice two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of nuts, roasted malt, caramel, pit fruits and a dose of metal. Medium-bodied; Assertive aggressive roasted malt flavours with tons of nuts and caramel coming through. Aftertaste shows a bit of coffee, although not much at all, but the roasted malt and bitter nuts really cuts through. Overall, a pretty mild and rather plain amber ale with a hint of coffee but more hints of nuts and caramel. I didn’t like this that much and would definitely pass on another. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 25-July-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 22-September-2009.

Nice, Dark beer with a strong flavor. Pours like a stout with lots of head (think Guinness). STRONG coffee flavor, palate a little heavy. Nice, but couldn’t drink more then one at a time.

A strong smell of espresso! This delicious beer tastes like a mix of both beer and coffee - a delicious ale.

bottle bb jan 09 shared by psprings... pale amber pour with a soft light tan head. it smells like truck stop coffee... nutty, sour, lactose, malt and a touch of chocolate. it tastes... well, like crappy over steeped coffee... very little malt, odd dry soured finish and much more coffee than amber. weird, not terrible. it just doesn’t make much sense. light to medium bodied... a bit watery. 6/3/5/3/12/2.9

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a moderate long-lasting off-white head. The aroma is the beer’s best quality and is filled with freshly brewed coffee. I wish I had stopped here. The flavor is weak, washed out coffee along with some even more watered down caramel malt. Weak finish. Thin, watery body. After a very promising start, this beer was disappointing.

Pours amber with a thin white head. A sweet malt aroma and flavor with a messy coffee undertone Make this undrinkable.
