16 ounce pint - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Decatur, Georgia. Appearance: Clear, medium brown body with a small-sized cap of off-white foam. Thin spiderweb lacing on the way down. Smell: Nose smelling modestly of toasted nuts, cocoa, and some standard caramel. Lesser, lighter notes of fruit, spicy hops, and even diacetyl. Taste: Malty beginning with touches of dry caramel and chocolate powder and, of course, some palpable nutty tones as well. Smattering of buttery diacetly. Flash of estery fruitiness. Spicy, earthy hops with a medium amount of bitterness. Dry, bitterish finish, though it still remains nutty even at the end. Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Not a bad lil’ brown, really, and one I could cheerfully consume a lot of.

I had this at a beer festival near their brewery in maine. It was the top beer that we had at the festival by far. A little too sweet on the molasses however.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a mostly clear brown with a moderate off-white head that quickly faded to a film. Light aroma of nuts and caramel. The flavor is equally timid with again nuts and caramel. Thin, watery body. A bit disappointing.

Dark brown with reddish tints. Aroma is sharp- sweet caramel with some molasses and grain. Some toasty notes follow. Flavor is slightly on the dry-roast side with less sweetness than expected. Palate is a bit on the watery side, ending dry but clean. Decent overall, but not extravagant for the style.

16 oz. on tap at South Street Seaport. Pours a dark brown color, very little light passing through and very little head. Aroma is pleasant and sweet with some nuttiness and coffee and a little malt. Flavor is a little bitter but again nutty and malty, but overall very subtle. Palate is very smooth. Enjoyable beer.

Last rating from Hyun’s bachelor party. Aroma was nutty with notes of caramel. Deep brown, nice head. Flavor matched. There was a hint of buttery diacetyl on the finish, which I normally have difficulty detecting, but clearly evident here. Having said that, it actually seemed to compliment the nut notes in this beer. Helped compensate a bit for an otherwise thin body. Not great, not awful.
