BeerBelcher (714), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 21, 2008 Of the three Peak Organic beers I’ve tried, this one was definitely the best, although by no means did it stand out in my mind as a great beer experience. Still, pretty drinkable.
Appearance was pretty normal; minimal head with a copper colored body that was clear but not brilliant. Aroma had some off notes to it; there was caramel-ness and a touch of sourness, but also with some sourness. First sip gave the impression of smoothness which was a side-effect of a lot of diacetyl flavor, which I felt didn’t really belong. There was nice caramel maltiness and some ashtray mouthfeel to it that I’ve experienced in the Peak Amber as well. Not bad, but hardly terrific.
Why do these Peak beers grate my mouth like I’m licking an ashtray?
I wouldn’t really recommend this beer. I bought this bottle at Woodman’s in Oak Creek, WI.
hogan873 (184), Joliet, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Dark brown body with a thick beige head that leaves nice lacing. Light, sweet, nutty aroma. Weak, watery palate. A little malty sweetness up front leads to some tree bark bitterness. Dry finish with a bitter aftertaste. Not one of my favorites. DrDavid (157), , Vermont, USA Aug 20, 2008 (Bottle). Nuts and caramel aroma. Brown amber in color with a thin head. Flavor not bad (quite a bit better than I expected), although certainly not among the best of brown ales. Good carbonation, some nuttiness and sweet caramel. But muted below the level of making a truly favorable impact. Finish is very dry. phishpond417 (1409), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2008 Pours a semi cloudy dark brown colour with a medium sized beige head. Ntty, oak and slight grassy notes in the aroma. Peanuts, grain and soft toffee flavors throughout. Finish is lingering. jcr (833), Jasper, Indiana, USA Aug 9, 2008 Draft at Parkside Restaurant. Clear light to medium brown body with a spare off-white head. Nice aroma of cooke, toasted malts and nuts. Hints of flowers in the background. Also some hints of sweet brown sugar. The flavor was lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic and lightly bitter. The finish was moderately bitter. Medium body with a thin texture and lively carbonation. Comfortable and uneventful. tedovertu (105), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bottle, small white head with fair lacing. Medium amber body. Moderately heavy hoppiness to the aroma. Bitter finish. Pretty bland beer but drinkable.
