does not count BobNQ3X (3), Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2008 Purchased in bottle. I rather enjoyed drinking it. It’s good to see that organic beer is just as good as any other.
The chestnut color is dead on for the style. Brilliant clarity. Nice parchment head, long-lasting lace of foam in the glass.
Aroma dominated by floral hops. Slight but complex malt aromas, with some roasted characteristics.
Flavor quite well balanced, with solid malt ably countered by a firm hops bitterness, finished by slight chocolate roastiness and nuttiness, combined with herbal, floral hops. Finished slightly dry.
Moderate carbonation does not mask hops. Full mouthfeel is pleasant, but does not overwhelm.
Very "moreish". It’s easy to finish one and pour another, and you’d appreciate doing so. If anything, it’s overhopped to be a NUT brown ale in the English tradition, but not so much that it slaps you in the face.
I liked this beer very much! It isn’t the most complex nut brown ale out there, but a solidly-executed example of the style. Recommended.
BEERGUY007 (202), Scotia, New York, USA Nov 27, 2008 12 ounce bottle from Glenville beverage. Aroma is nutty with a nutty flavor. It was ok, and I usually like nutty beers, I wasn’t a huge fan of this one. I would drink it if it were available, but probably won’t seek it out. ChristianScheffel (2318), Odense, Denmark Oct 10, 2008 Dark amber with a lasting off-white head. Weak aroma of citrus hops and grainy malt. Sweet with a little hop flavour. SB (299), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 29, 2008 From Bottle. Poured dark with beige head. Nice lace on top half of glass. Aroma was faint. Nutty and malts. Flavor was a malty, nutty, sweet in the end. Some earthiness in the middle. Very mild. medium carbonation. Def. a session beer. hogan873 (204), Joliet, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Dark brown body with a thick beige head that leaves nice lacing. Light, sweet, nutty aroma. Weak, watery palate. A little malty sweetness up front leads to some tree bark bitterness. Dry finish with a bitter aftertaste. Not one of my favorites. DrDavid (488), Johnson, Vermont, USA Aug 20, 2008 (Bottle). Nuts and caramel aroma. Brown amber in color with a thin head. Flavor not bad (quite a bit better than I expected), although certainly not among the best of brown ales. Good carbonation, some nuttiness and sweet caramel. But muted below the level of making a truly favorable impact. Finish is very dry.
