Because this selection from peak is all sorts of terrible. Nose of youguessedit diacetyl with some broken vacuum cleaner. I’m afraid to taste this after the IPA. Flavor is a tad better than the aroma with a little citrus bitterness coming through, but still mainly just butter. popephred (193), Plainfield, Illinois, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Found in the bargain bin at my local Binny’s. Poured from the bottle into a double-walled tumbler. I should say "attempted to pour." As I poured the ale, it instantly foamed up, overfilling the glass with a thick, rocky meringue head of white foam. Ten minutes later, I make another attempt to pour the remainder of the bottle into the glass, with the same degree of foam-up. Alright, now that it’s finally poured, I can see that it is a cloudy amber body, with a good degree of floaty bits in it. Malt is predominant in the aroma, with a slight smokiness. The body isn’t bad though, medium texture ad a sweet-bitter flavor. The finish is bitter hops without the pine notes that one would come to expect from a pale ale. oteyj (761), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 26, 2009 Golden pour with small white head. Aroma is toasty caramel malt with a hint of fruity ester and toffee. Flavor is slightly sweet with caramel and biscuit rounding out a minimal and disappointing hop character. Citrus notes are quite minimal, if at all detectable. Palate is thin... really thin. This is really not all that good. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Bottle. Moderate roasted smell for the malt, light pine and soap for the hops and yeast, with hints of wood, pepper, melon and plastic. Head is rocky, white, with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear light amber/orange. Flavor starts moderately acidic, and the long finish is moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, dry and has a lively carbonation and a dry finish. All good except for a synthetic note in the aroma. I don’t know how other raters got sweet out of this. thornecb (1773), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 24, 2009 Pours clear amber into a shaker. Bright white head with excellent retention. Sour malt aromas. Sweet caramel upfront turning sour and bitter in the lasting finish. Cletus (5055), Connecticut, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Pours copper with a thin tan head. Smells of bubblegum and sweet citrus. Tastes of caramel and sweet with some tea on the finish. CheersMate1 (794), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 15, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine Perimeter. I had never seen this before, so I thought I would give it a chance. Translucent copper/orange color. Head is fluffy at first, but then it slowly fades away to a nice thin layer of head that makes this brew look pretty good; nothing exceptional, just good. A slighty cheap juicy juice-type aroma. Not really picking up on the hops in the aroma, which is a big let down. Fruity aroma mellows out to a nice subtle malty aroma, but still no hops. The beer is pungent, but still is lacking that hop and malt balance one looks for in an American Pale Ale. Slight sweet malt flavor, with a hint of bitterness towards the end. Not a horrible brew, but not very well balanced. The bittering hop does stick around for some time, but it is not hitting my tastebuds as I would like it to. Not a bad brew, but not not that good either.
