muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 2, 2007 5 ounce draught sample at the brewpub, December 29th 2006. Very dense black with just a bit of head retained (not on nitro, thankfully)....dark roasty malts and some nice fruitiness evident in the nose (blackberries?), licorice and vanilla showing up eventually....chocolaty, pretty bitter flavor profile, lots of coffee grounds....quite dry and a bit peppery to finish, body could be fuller....mineralic qualities noted in other samples were present but largely camouflaged here....not bad. (3+) Mild sweet roast aroma, dusty malt in the background. (6+) Flavour is milder than expected, mocha roast, mild sweet malt. Light bitterness grows in the finish and lingers. (6+) Average palate is on the lighter side for a stout. Average but okay. Sampler at the brewpub. Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 10, 2006 By far their best beer, roasty, black. with a bunch of carbonation, less may be better.Tad chocolate with bitter and dry finish. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Oct 27, 2002 American oats are used, the label reads. This is a fairly dry stout. Oily and rich, this is an homage to the stout-maker’s craft. Roasty and delicious!
