Commercial Description:
An all-malt American Brown Ale with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma comes predominantly from the malt with a hint of the spiciness of imported British hops. Seven distinct specialty malts are milled at the brewery and mashed together, providing a complex, nutty flavor with subtle, roasted undertones. This Pearl Street original is a favorite amongst locals and professional beer judges alike. Gold Medal Winner at the World Beer Championships, 2003. Available on draught year ‘round.

Draft at the OF. Dark orange-brown, semi-translucent/transparent. Looks filtered out a bit. Big foamy head. Rich brown malt flavor, quite malty and rich. Sweet, with some slight bitterness to round out the brown sugar taste. Pretty standard in some respects, but still acceptable. Does the job.

Thin white head, almost mahogany in color. Slight malt aroma, hints of plum, I didn’t detect spiciness. low malt flavors, hints of plum or is that the nuttiness? Low-medium mouthfell with some hop bitterness. I just learning about browns, and this one is good, comes across as a British Mild style.

Very light brown. Little flavor. Somewhat caramel taste. Not much to offer here. A bit of a let down.

Gusher from the get-go but oddly poured with only a thin tan head over a clear mahogany base. Aroma of heavy toffee, roasted malt, nuts biscuity notes and a touch of dust. Taste of caramel, toffee, nuts and lots of malt. A bit active on the palate with heavy carbonation and a grainy finish. Okay, but a bit bland.

Medium brown red body that shows nearly copper. The head was light khaki. An earthy, musty almost moss like smell. There is also some walnut behind the funk. The taste has some biscuit and light beef jerky. There is also some walnut. A decent brew, but a little sweet and lacking in much roast or malt balance.

Amber brown in color with a tan head. Nose of roasted malt and a hint of smoke. More roasted malt on the palate with a nice nuttiness. Body is light again but the beer is drinkable.

Pours a dark, clear amber with an open beige head that quickly dissipates, but leaves some lace. Aroma is mostly vegetal, with a whiff of smoke in the background. Flavor is much better, richly malty, dark chocolate undertones with caramel, and some nuts above. The vegetables do creep back in on the finish. Medium body, not much carbonic presence on the palate.

Sasmpled last night at my friend Lynsey’s birthday party and got another bottle in the fridge. Tastey all around, poured semi hazey brown body with a small off white head. Aroma is nice, has a little bit of smokiness to it with some caramel and woody notes as well. Taste is flavourful- rich malts, toast and cinnamon flavours. nice beer!"
