muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 2, 2007 5 ounce draught sample at the brewpub, December 29th 2006. Slightly hazy, very dark amber with a small retained smooth off-white head and a bit of lacing...very light aroma, faint caramel malts, a bit of citric hops, perhaps a touch of blueberry and dark chocolate....incredibly soft, cotton-candy mouthfeel is the biggest strength here; actually a little smoother than I’d like in a doppelbock, but creamy and easay-drinking with barely a hint of alcohol....unfortunately, not a lot of real flavor either, rather too dry and more bitter than I’d expect, not a lot of malt sweetness. Oh well, more drinkable than half the samples I had and lacking in the problematic water qualities of those. rudolf (1543), Buffalo, New York, USA Dec 10, 2006 Dee ruby brown, off-white head. Nose is cocoa, slightly dusty malt, slight maple/cherry and a hint of caramel. Flavor is thin - some malt, a little hop. A bit of bitterness in the finish. Slight alcohol presence.
