Draft. Reddish brown body, small head, malty nose. Might be a bit smoky, malty, sweet, nothing special.

5 ounce draught sample at the brewpub, December 29th 2006. Dark clear maple with a dense, lasting creamy tan head that laces nicely with thin bands of caramel sugars.....pleasant sweet (maybe a little over-sweet) aroma, brown sugar and just a hint of peat, maybe a bit worty....smooth, earthy-sweet body, caramel/brown sugar dominates but there’s plenty of acrid peat-smoke searing the body throughout, touches of blackberries and raspberries, light chocolate....pillowy smooth like the doppelbock, carbonation fairly strong and dancing on the tongue....alcohol (listed at 10.5% for this year’s version) apparent only at the finish. Nice beer that helps to redeem the first couple of crappy samples I had....

On tap at Pearl Street in Buffalo. Very dark red color with a thin white head. Smokey malt aroma. Sweet. Flavor is slightly smoked peat. Smooth and very easy to drink. No bitterness at all. Nice.
