Good malt aroma with just hints of chocolate, coffee. big hops in aroma; citric, floral. There is a bit of a clash with malt and hop in aroma. Seems to produce a janitorial smell that I can’t really describe. This, however, is the hoppiest brown ale that I have ever come across. I must be back in the Northwest. Perhaps out of style but a very nice brown ale. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA

The first thing you notice is the strong initial grassy hops aroma, which gives way to a sweeter nose of caramel and brown sugar. As it warms, the aroma becomes weaker. The first sip hits your tongue with a smooth, sweet maltiness which is quickly greeted by a dry hoppiness to balance it off perfectly. For a brown ale, it has a rather full mouthfeel. It finishes very smooth and (hoppy) dry. Very well balanced and very drinkable. If I didn’t live 3000 miles away, this would become my new session beer of choice. mutant (854), Melbourne, Australia

Sweet aroma and flavour in the beginning, some bitterness at the end. Obviously less than their APA. Good but this shouldn’t be anyone’s Grand Champion. omhper (12247), Stockholm, Sweden

Medium sweet and fairly light bodied- Pleasantly hop aromatic with a salty finish that holds medium biterness. Not spectacular or overpowering in anyway, but thoroughly well balanced and made. It was ahrd to believe this was a dark beer. Very malty start, yet turns bitter quickly, and remains especially bitter at the finish. Hoppy thoughout. Not a bad beer per se, but also not what I had expected, and not a beer I’d drink again. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2005 This was simply a mediocre brown ale. Medium to dark brown body under a big beige head. The aroma was roasted malts, sweet, treacly. Medium bodied, ample carbonation, decent texture. Flavor was average brown ale. Nothing to recommend itself but nothing offensive either. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Mar 20, 2005 Thin, roasted malt aroma with a hint of hops. Thick, off-white, fine-bubble head. Lots of cascadking visible carbonation and excellent lace. Head is lasting. Tastes like it smells. An unassuming brown ale. Somewhat under-bodied. A nice very moderate hop finish though. Still not what it could be. Perhaps I am getting spoiled by all of the bigger, fuller bodied beers I have been focusing on. This is good, just not great. Thanks, slikwily.
