Commercial Description:
Grand Cru de Pelican is the result of inspiration, creativity, and imagination. With a nod to the great brewing traditions of Belgium, we have been inspired to create this dark, sensous brew. Grand Cru de Pelican entices with a rich, complex aroma, and satisfies with deep malty and caramel flavors. Spicy, aromatic flavors provide a harmonious counterpoint to the malty foundation of this robust beer. A snappy finish and medium-light body enhance the smooth drinkability of this beer.

Brown-amber with a bubbly brown head. From first pour, it is evident that this diverges sharply from the usual style. Brown-sugar and molasses strike the nose first. Honts of aged wood and sour cherry notes waft in. Richly flavorful, medium-bodied mouthfeel with multifacted palate of marsala notes, figs and then a caramel and chocolate-cherry finish. Wonderful melody of aromas and flavors lap over the senses. Depths of figs and brown sugar continue to reveal themselves. Sweet sugar-fig finish.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of bu11zeye. Vintage 2007. Slightly hazy reddish brown with a dense and creamy beige head leaving laces. Sweetish aroma of dried fruit and a lightly fusty aroma. Medium body, a little low in carbonation, dried and overripe fruit with some brown sugar. The finish is dry with hardly ant bitterness. Appears a little dusty and over the top really. 010509

JMFG gets the thanks for this one. 2007 vintage. Malty, caramel and dark fruits in the nose. Flavors are more of the same, with a strong malt character with a good sweetness and a good alcohol kick.

sampled from a 750ml bottle at DLD. pours a root beer brown with hints of gold and thin, bubbly, light tan head. aroma was very nice with notes of toffee, dark malts, dried figs, dried red fruits, spice, and a hint of earth. flavor was solid with sweet malts, yeast, caramel, dried prune, apricot, and a bit of booze. mouthfeel was bright, medium bodied, with a bit of alcohol warmth. very nice brew.

2007 Vintage

4/25/2009: Pelican Grand Cru has a sweet, orange candy aroma. It is extremely malty with a muky brown color, a dense ivory-colored head, and a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Really, this beer is very much like a Scotch ale. Excellent!

Sample from bottle at Dark Lord Day 2009. Rating #62 for this beer.
