Commercial Description:
Grand Cru de Pelican is the result of inspiration, creativity, and imagination. With a nod to the great brewing traditions of Belgium, we have been inspired to create this dark, sensous brew. Grand Cru de Pelican entices with a rich, complex aroma, and satisfies with deep malty and caramel flavors. Spicy, aromatic flavors provide a harmonious counterpoint to the malty foundation of this robust beer. A snappy finish and medium-light body enhance the smooth drinkability of this beer.

Crazy strong and lots of thick malts, very rich body and taste. Aroma is sweet and some fruit. Dark burnt fruit, raisins, figs and plums, nice.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. 2007 Vintage purchased mail order directly from the brewery. Pour is a dense brown with slight hazel notes. Some ruby noticeable in the light as well. Nice thick one inch tan head. Decent lacing. Aroma of huge sweet malty caramel, toast, and ripe fruit abound. Under that is a big dose of floral honey and earthiness. Nice full and engaging nose. The taste is the caramelized maltiness of the nose and the floral. There is also a cooking brown sugar sweetness which is very warming. The fruit is present as well, but it is more dark cherry and honey than the generic ripe fruit of the nose. The floral dominates the finish, which is quite dry. Palate is medium, perhaps a bit thinner than i was expecting which actually made the flavors pop out a bit more for me. This is also quite dry, with a fair amount of carbonation. Nice one.

Lots of sweet dark bread, spicy notes, dark fruit, and lots of sugars in the nose. Auburn pour with a nice fizzy head. Lots of dark fruit, a shit ton of sugary sweetness, and a lot of alcohol. Full heavy palate lots of carbonation too. I can appreciate it, but it was just too sweet for my tastes.

Very dark brown pour, slight reddish tint, thin tan head. A lot of plum aromas, fig, Belgian yeast. Sweet candied taste, raisin, plum, very rich. An excellent American quad.

[Vintage 2006] Tap @ Barleywine and Big Beer Fest... Poured a dark ruby/brown with a beige head. Wine-like aroma with some oak and sugars. Fizzy palate. No bitterness and a lot of roasted grains. Some sweet flavors with tropical and dried fruit.

750ml caged and corked bottle. 2007 Vintage. Opened to a very loud pop. Not a gusher, but a little bit came out of the bottle. Poured a deep and dark amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, some dark fruits, yeast, and some chocolate. Tastes of caramel, dark fruits, caramel, lighter yeast, brown sugary, and all around malty. Alcohol content well hidden. Lively body.

2007 bottle shared with Santoslhalper. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a small fizzy light tan head that is gone after a few seconds. Aroma is powerful dark dried fruit. Caramel malty and fruity. Lost of toffee too. The flavor is almost like a buttery cinnamon roll. Some raspberries, a slight tart, brown sugar, and a definite warming alcohol. A slight metallic note, but overall outstanding. The body is very rich and creamy, while possessing an strong effervescence.
