SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA Jan 25, 2006 Bomber from winter SS. Once again, another gem from Pelican. One of the best IPAs out there. Hazy orange with a beautiful head and great lace. It’s exactly what an IPA should look like. Piney and grassy hops blend wonderfully with a strong malt backbone in the nose. The first thing you notice on first sip is the extreme dry-hopping, but it’s done very well. It melds great with the strong malt backbone, and hints of caramel, honey and peppery spices. Finishes strong and dry. Again, another great one at Pelican. Thanks, Andre! Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Jan 19, 2006 Sampled from bottle at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2005. Pours slightly hazy dark golden and a foamy off-white head. Grassy hoppy aroma, like a newly mowed lawn. Sweet malty, fruity and sugary notes, fresh and typical American. Grassy and very bitter hoppy flavor with nutty notes. Fresh, full and tasty and well balanced despite the heavy hoppyness. Yummi!! harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jan 12, 2006 This is quite possibly one of the tastiest IPAs I have ever tried. Pours a really pretty golden amber with a huge foamy cloud-like head. Amazingly balanced, with a rich malt character that reaches new heights of flavor and a hop bite that reaches out and slaps your palate. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jan 8, 2006 22oz bottle via trade with hopdog - Thanks Steve! Pours a nice bright amber color with a pretty good sized offwhite rocky head that stays well and clings to the sides of the tulip on the way down. Aroma is all c-hops. Much grapefruit and pine in the nose.. There is a hint of caramel malt there as well though. Flavor is very hoppy. Lots of citrus grapefruit notes up front give way to a sweet caramel malt backbone in the middle and then come back to finish bitter. Very smooth and medium bodied. A very nice IPA. Quite enjoyable.. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 8, 2005 Updated: Nov 14, 2006Rerate (8-2-9-5-17=4.1): Pine, citrus, floral aroma. Clear orange tan body is topped by a low off white head that recedes to partial cover. Sweet malts and plenty of citrus hops(orange, grapefruit) with strong bitterness that sneaks up and lingers in the aftertaste. Thick, chewy medium full body with fair carbonation that engages the tongue and cheeks. Bottle (Produced Jan-06) sampled with beerbuzzmontreal, Lubiere, MartinT and Rastacouere. Original Rating (7-3-6-3-12=3.1): Leafy, floral, orange, grapefruit, citrus hop nose. Hazy orange-tan coloured body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled white head that recedes slowly to cover. Fairly aggressive bitterness is not fully supported by the underlying malts with heavy citrus hop character. Medium body with lively, strong carbonation. Sampled on tap at the Falling Rock post GABF 2005. Dogbrick (2805), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 8, 2005 Thanks to cmaruschak for providing me with this superb IPA. Pours a bright bronze/orange color with tiny rising bubbles and a medium white fluffy head. Nice lacing streaks the glass. Big citrusy hops aroma. Medium-bodied with an excellent hops flavor. Citrus and a bit of malt and herb flavors are very well-balanced. The finish retains the flavorful hops throughout. This is probably the best "regular" IPA I have had, beating out even Alesmith and Buckeye Hippie IPA. Excellent! oldno7 (135), Spokane, Washington, USA Nov 28, 2005 Pours amber with a white head. T he aroma was of hops, malts, citrus, and yeast. Has a strong flavor of hops, malts, pine and fruits. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 25, 2005 Clear golden pour offering a medium sized white head. Well this smells pretty much like what I remember from two hearted ale! Full on centennial nose with the characteristic earthy ripe orange smell with perfumey and citrusy backings. The crystal malts underneath are obviously dwarved and kept silent, barely hinting at candies and offering support mouthfeel. It is all about the spicy hops and I must say it is well done at that, very aromatic, without any out of place acidity nor too plain west coast aromatics, I assume the sample was particularly fresh. Peppery, perfumey, sweet fruits. Engaging carbonation and crisp mouthfeel helped as well. Classic.
