nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 13, 2009 Source:Sample from a 22oz bottle at a tasting in Nashville.
Glass:Taster.
Appearance:Poured a hazy orange color with a one finger off white head.
Aroma:Muted aroma. Citrus and earth with a hint of pine.
Flavor:Solid malt base with a resiny finish.
Palate:Medium body with solid carbonation.
Overall:I agree with some of the raters below. Very much an English style beer. Very good, but not quite what I was expecting.
JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2009 Growler sample from a traveling friend. Clear orange color with a thin white head. Balanced aroma of malt and citrusy and grassy hops. Malty and citrusy hop flavor with a lingering bitter finish. Definitely tasting the cascades and they’re delicious. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2009 Thanks to JaBier for giving me this bottle; I split it with SurlySober and enjoyed it greatly.
This beer struck SurlySober and I as an IPA that sort of seems a bridge from English-style IPAs and big American ones. The reason I say this is due to the amount and character of the hoppiness in this beer - it is discernibly hoppy, far more so than in an English-style IPA but without the more bitter citrus, grassy, or piney hop character found in the better rated American IPAs. This beer smells and tastes quite hoppy, but more in an English style amped-up kind of way than with the American style hoppiness. Lots of dry hop character. Still good though. It pours gold with a medium amount of white head. Mouthfeel is dry and good.
A very nice beer. KnutAlbert (3101), Oslo, Norway Jul 2, 2009 Lovely piney nose, some oil, citrus.
First class IPA. Tons of hops explode in the mouth. Sweet malt uenderneath, but the hops win the battle and linger on for a long time. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 20, 2009 Pours a crystal clear rosy copper with a decent head and some marvellous laceing. Aroma consists of plenty of bitter, oily pine. Yum! Very dry, bitter taste - light biscuit character. Good amount of sweetness upfront, but is consumed by dry hop notes and alcohol - scotch like in terms of dry heat. Great carbonation, crisp body. This is splendid! Reminds me of all those over-the-top IPAs I enjoy when visiting the US. I suspect this would age well. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 16, 2009 bottle, thanks zeswaft. a more-bitter-than-usual IPA. chewy and full bodied, citrus, piney hops. enough malt to balance. enjoyable. Cletus (4999), Connecticut, USA Jun 16, 2009 Pours light copper with an off white head. Smells of resin, some spice, citrus. Tastes of citrus, some caramel, peppery, nice spicy finish. cmonster (73), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 14, 2009 Bomber served in a tulip. Golden honey in color with a pillowy off-white head. Big nose of pine and sweet citrus. Pineapple, lemon, grapefruit, orange, and a good deal of malt in the form of caramel. The attack has a sharp, hoppy bite with a bitterness that holds through the finish. Medium body. Creamy and very sticky mouthfeel. Excellent brew!
