There is a two-finger ivory head that is dense, rocky, long-lasting, and leaves interesting pictograph-like lacing on the glass. The aroma is citrus and pine with some toffee maltiness. The flavor is clean and satisfying with lots of grapefruit and pine hops, a moderate bitterness, and just enough toffee maltiness to provide the necessary balance. There is a long, pleasing bitter finish hightlighted by citrus (grapefruit and tangerine) hop flavors. This is an extremely easy to drink IPA despite its higher alcohol content (no alcohol is noticeable in the flavor!). This beer has a medium-full body and is very smooth and mellow on the palate. India Pelican Ale is an excellent IPA.
22 oz bottle from trade with kenb (Oct 2006). Thanks Ken. I appreciate it! Rating #173 for this beer... JohnC (2254), Mission Viejo, California, USA

The aroma of hops is all over the place. The flavor is hoppy, but finishes w/ just a hint of sweetness. This is an excellent IPA. alexanderj (2251), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2009 Bottle. Poured an orange-amber, clear. Aroma was nice and strong. Caramel malt, floral, sweet malt, and flowers. Flavor was really bitter for the style. An earthy bitterness in the finish. Citrus and floral as well. Some decenet caramel backbone. Pretty resinous. A light sweetness. Flavor is really bitter for me. Hop bomb. Maybe a bit too much. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA

My first experience was a bottle I bought in Portland which I gave a 7 4 6 4 16. It had a rich big hopped bitter mouthful with some malty sweetness. A few days later I visited the brewpub and was blown away. It had an amazing intense almost piercing hop aroma that carried into the flavor in waves of fresh bright sunlight. Damn it was good. The brewpub is right on the ocean with a fantastic view to compliment their wonderful beers. willblake (2176), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

This was one of my favorites of the GABF weekend. Great balance all around from sniff to swallow. Plenty of lively eff to keep the palate clean. Huge IPA with thick and chewy malts, tropical fruit sweetness, lots of citrus and especially grapefruit. Sticky dry finish. Finish is long, citrus, wheatgrass. Just outstanding. I drank far too much of this goodness. The combination of peppery spice, grassy, plus citrusy hops is irresistible to me. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice aroma and flavor of grapefruit, spruce and pine. Intense, palate-wrecking quality bitterness. Hops overpower a bit, but take you for a fun ride.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Clear amber body, thin off-white head. Floral, herbal and strong hops aroma with caramely malts, also notes of pine. The strong hops carried over to the body with a very bitter citrus rind finish. Biscuity, caramely malts were amped up just enough to balance the hops. So standard an IPA though...Thanks Bill (batkins) for the bottle!
