Commercial Description:
Rich with roasted and caramel flavors, John Q. Porter sports a dark brown color and a spicy, herbal, floral hop aroma. A rich coffee-like roast character with cocoa and caramel undertones emerges, and the finish is mile, balanced and smooth. Enjoy John Q Porter while it lasts!

A nice full bodied brown porter. Rich and nicely roasted , with full on flavors of chocolate and coffee, moist chocolate cake mouthfeel. NIcely balanced with a dry roasted finish.

Near black. Fairly strong aroma with roast and a bit of chocolate and coffee. Smooth, full maltiness. Quite roasty as porters go but with smooth chocolate richness to back it up. Finishes quite dry.

Draught at the brewpub. Black, brief head. Aroma of mildly roasted coffee. Dryish with fairly light body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. There are notes of aniseed and some other stuff, but the lack of malt softness doesn’t allow me to pick up the more subtle flavours. Medium bitterness.

Brown with mahogany edges. Tan head and sparse lacing. Chocolate and roast with some bitter hops. Muted nose. Bitter roast and chocolate in the flavor. Fruity in the flavor and finishes bitter and roasty.

On tap at the Pelican Brewery on Cask. I’ve been debating as to if i should rate this or not, still to this day i’m not sure if this was really a porter, we asked for samples of the porter and it came back looking like an amber ale, we even got samples of the porter off of the cask and regular tap, still no porter looking beverage showed up. Very light copper color with a light tan head. Aroma was just a touch roasty, faint aroma of cocoa and maybe a touch of coffee, nothing like most porters i’ve had, lacking in the rich, roasty character. The flavor was very watery on the plate, the flavors were very mild and subtle. Wasn’t all that bad of a beer, just a bad porter. Maybe they just had a bad batch.

RBSG 2004 on tap: Ruby with a small head, roasted aroma that is a bit much. Full bodied, and ends lightly sweet.
