Commercial Description:
Full of intriguing malt flavors, Le Pélican Brun was conceived by the fertile imaginations of the team of Pelican brewers and inspired by the many brewing traditions of Belgium . With a deep reddish-brown color that suggests an Abbey-Style Dubbel, but a rich yeast-driven aroma reminiscent of a Saison, Le Pélican Brun serves up coffee-like, cocoa and caramel malt flavors with hints of earthiness and a captivating spiciness. Medium-bodied and highly drinkable, Le Pélican Brun is also rich, complex and satisfying.

750ml bottle. Hazy reddish brown body with a nice beige head. Aroma is sweet malt, spicy, caramel, dry fruit and yeast. Complex and very promising aroma. Flavor lives up to the expectations, sweet (very Belgium), spicy , brown sugar, caramel, esters and this wonderful little touch of sourness/cellar notes. Fine malty body, and perfect balance between sweet, sour, bitterness and alcohol. Totally awesome!

Tap @ Bailey’s Taproom... Poured a deep ruby with a beige head. Spiced aroma that was fruity and with a lot of esters. Soft, subtly carbonated palate. Fruity with plums and/or raisins. Lots of brown sugars with pretty much no bitterness. Highly drinkable and approachable. Spiced like cinnamon or nutmeg.

Draft @ Pelican. Pours a dark, clear amber color; light-tan head with good retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Loads of dried dark fruits, Belgian sugars, and pleasant esters in the aroma; carefully sweet. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of brown sugar (soft), dried dark fruits (dates, raisins), and complex Belgian character; again, the core is generous without being sticky; nicely done strong Belgian. Lengthy finish: dried dark fruits, light mineral bitterness; balanced end.

Picked up a 750 ml, 2007 vintage bottle from Pelican Pub delivery. Pours a semi-clear dark copper amber brew with a fast dissolving beige head that dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, a touch of raisin, yeast, some dark pitted fruits, and brown sugar. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, dried tropical fruit, some candi sugar, yeast, and a touch of apple. Finish is semi-sweet some alcohol presence the a mild tart bitterness that slowly disappears. A solid Belgian dark ale over all.

Bottled, special. Hazy dark brown. Brown sugar nose and a creamy lovely mouthfeel. Flavors are complex and nuanced, not sweet but with alcohol apparent.

pint at the Brewpub, outside in the late summer sun , beautiful. Dark brown, slighty hazed, small tan head, that stays. Aroma is definatlly yeasty, but with hints of burnt brown sugar and coriander. Spicy, complex yeasty, malt driven flavours, also a noticable sourness, which is very pleasing, its almost to the point of a Belgian Sour, but not quite. Very intrgueing. Very nice palate, thick and silky smooth, nicelingering flavours. Overall a very nice beer and a nice surprise.

2007 cork and wire 750mL. Damn cork was a main to get out and then it popped like a loud mofo, scared the crap out of me. Pours is loud and noise, full of vigorous sparkling clatter. The head is medium sized and bubbly. Color is dark brown, too dark to see through but clear when placed against the light. Aroma is lightly cherry aroma with light watery black bread and light raisin. Taste follows along with more cherry arising and getting a bit Flander’s like. A bit more of the black bread character as well. Very easy to drink, light sweetness, light cherry and all of that is surrounded by a very fizzy mouthfeel which works great with the lighter body. This may be the best Pelican beer I have had to date.

750, capped. Thanks, Chris! Dark brown with rubied highlights and a dense but shallow tan head. Creamy medium body with firm carb. Tangy dark fruit and brown bread mid-palate. Long fruity finish.
