Commercial Description:
The Saison ales of Belgium inspire our special ale, Saison du Pelican. Saison is the French word for season, because these ales were traditionally brewed in autumn or winter. With a spicy, herbal aroma from the special Belgian yeast and Golding hops, and a snappy, refreshing finish, Saison du Pelican combines traditional flavors with excellent drinkability

On tap this was still a bit flat, not the crisp saisons that I’m used to. Lots of vegi boiled artichoke flavor from this. The hops were stronger, but the bitterness seemed to amplify the vegi flavor. Soft spicing in the finish, like clove and soft banana. I just think they rushed this keg out of the brewery.

Purchased a 750 ml bottle from the brewery’s internet sales. Pours a hazy golden pale brew with a thick white head that slowly dissipates to a thin white head and has some good rentention. Aroma of banana esters, cloves and golden multi-grain malt with some dry earthy herbs and a touch of citrus. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt some grassy and citrus hops, banana, yeast and some green vegetables. Finish is semi-dry with some hop bitterness with yeast and clove aftertaste.

[Bottle] shared by skyview. Pours cloudy gold with a large off white. Aroma is banana, yeast, a touch of orange and lemon, and grows earthier as it warms. Flavor is light but rich. Lots of fruity, yeasty notes, and some mandarin orange.

Bottle courtesy of bitbucket, bottled 08/2007. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a thick, foamy white head. Aroma of melon, Belgian yeast, light fruits. Flavor of light fruits, orange zest, citrusy fruits, and grapefruit with a hint of vegetal qualities in the finish. Nice saison.

Bottle, 2007. Aroma spicy (particularly peppery) with citrus notes, particularly zest, and banana. Flavor has a rather overwhelming amount of banana for me, but the pleasant spiciness/zestiness does remain. Semi-dry, easy drinking. Very nice.

On tap as part of the sampler tray at the Brewery. A really quality saison. I was surprised to find such a quality Belgian styled beer in a west coast brewery. The aroma was right and the flavor has nice hay and grassy notes without being astringent. I wish I had more of this one.

Wow, this is easily one of my favorite Saisons. I’ve had this one hidden for over a year and decided to give it a try tonight. It pours a clear gold. If you are fan for the mass produced beers you’ll find this one very much right there in color. It gives a lot of head no matter how you pour it. So it’ll take a little bit to get to the drinking. The aroma has a lot flowery spices jumping out here. Upon first taste I got some banana in there and what I think was nutmeg. You also get some carbonation in there but it’s not over powering. Mouth feel does leave something to be desired. It’s almost a sour after taste in there. I like how this one came out.

A hazy golden beer with a thick white head. The aroma is sweet matly with notes of citrus and spices among them coriander. The flavor is sweet spicy and malty and with a slight alcohol burn on the tongue, leading to a dry spicy finish.
