Commercial Description:
The Saison ales of Belgium inspire our special ale, Saison du Pelican. Saison is the French word for season, because these ales were traditionally brewed in autumn or winter. With a spicy, herbal aroma from the special Belgian yeast and Golding hops, and a snappy, refreshing finish, Saison du Pelican combines traditional flavors with excellent drinkability

A hazy golden beer with a thick white head. The aroma is sweet matly with notes of citrus and spices among them coriander. The flavor is sweet spicy and malty and with a slight alcohol burn on the tongue, leading to a dry spicy finish.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Hazy golden ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Great retention. Herbal, spicy nose of white pepper, cumin, pale grains and avocado with traces of orange peel and pineapple. Terrific balance; herbal flavor with pale malt sweetness and spicy bitterness. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lengthy, herbal, lightly bitter finish. Big time thanks goes out to Bu11zeye for sharing his bottle!

Bottle, 2007. Head is initially large, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of candied fruit and coriander. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation. Pleasant if kind of simple and sweet.

Thanks Chris for the sample: Golden hue with a fluffy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of grassy hops, honey, coriander, grainy malts, pear, and sadly some diacetyl. The taste is sort of earthy and cheesy with a fruity overtone. Some sweet fortified white wine vinous flavors. The finish is dry and spicy with a band-aid offish character. The mouth feel is lively and very carbonated. Well this beer seemed to miss the boat, a complete disappointment.

Purchased a 750 ml bottle from the brewery’s internet sales. Pours a hazy golden pale brew with a thick white head that slowly dissipates to a thin white head and has some good rentention. Aroma of banana esters, cloves and golden multi-grain malt with some dry earthy herbs and a touch of citrus. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt some grassy and citrus hops, banana, yeast and some green vegetables. Finish is semi-dry with some hop bitterness with yeast and clove aftertaste.

CPLYFO 09. Thanks to Dan for sharing! Pours a really nice slightly cloudy deep golden- bright orange with a massive fluffy lasting head- and good lace. Aroma is loaded with nice full fresh breadiness, pils malts, light sweetness which is cut by a sharp yeasty phenolic character- very saison like with some citrus hints, light spicy phenols, and slight seafoam scent. Doughy pils malt flavor, yet not too big or sweet, spicy, lemony, spritzy with salt, light brine, and a slight tartness in the end along with it being bone dry make for a very well made saison. Rockin!
