Commercial Description:
Stormwatcher's Winterfest is the perfect brew to savor on a stormy Oregon Coast day. Its deep amber-red color, massive toasted malt, toffee and caramel aroma, and full-bodied malty flavor lead to a smooth, soft and warming finish. The floral and honey-like aroma and flavor highlights come from Hersbrucker hops and locally produced wildflower honey from Agape Forest Farms, while a toasted malt sweet ness balances a mild, subtle bitterness in the finish. Its big, rich flavor makes it the ideal complement to nasty weather!

On tap at the 06 Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival. This was the 2004 barley wine. Dark amber color beer with a tan head of tight bubbles. Burnt sugar and dark fruit nose. Syrupy smooth beer with a heavy toffee and burnt caramel sweetness. The sweetness and dried fruit notes reminded me of a great bread pudding we had at Glacier Brewhouse the night before. Very nice beer.

Sampled draught at Pelican Brewing, Pacific City
Ruby mahogany color, moderate carbonation but little head. Nose of spicy hops & honey, brown sugar sweetness, lots of malt here. The flavor is good, very full bodied, spicy & a little hot. Creamy tail. Also: Strawberry, dum dums, boysenberry syrup, very oaky!

Enjoyed at Long Haul Barley Wine Tour in Portland, Oregon--Poured a rich ruby color with a small but luxurious brown-grey head. Notes of big malts, robust hops, and roasty coffee and chocolate. Finished on the sweet side. Very potent and boozy. Good stuff.

Bottle poured at HotD dock sale... Poured dark amber/brown with a tan head. Thick, foamy palate. Caramel flavors and nutty malts, with a little bit of hops. [Like a Christmas cookie with a sweet pastry character]. Cocoa and boozy with a bitter finish.

sticky peaty hop aroma, dark bloodlike appearance with a nice medium tan head, very intense grape juice with a candylike finish and slight grassy hops

I am told this was the employees favorite out of all the vintages. I liked this one the least, that is not to say it is not a wonderful barleywine because it is, I just thought the strong flavor of honey overpowered everything and took away from the complexity of some of the other oustanding flavors of this vintage. The alcohol is also very present in this one. Very sweet mouthfeel, caramel, toffee nuttiness, fruitcake, molasses and maple syrup and of course honey. Over the top

One hell of a fat, over the top brew. I can just imagine sipping this out of a snifter in front of a fire on a winters night. Smooth buttery aroma with a hint of honey. Massive mouthfeel, strong alcoholic presence knocks your senses out a bit, but it is still surprisingly smooth. Would make a great cellar beer.

2/19/05. On tap at the Toronado Barleywine Festival ’05 in San Francisco, CA 2/19/05. Burgundy-brown body with a very little head, coffee-tan in color. Oily, thick appearance and texture with an attractive ring of foam. Mostly transparent with some opacity. Lacing is good but a bit blotchy- bubbles clump together and cascade. Very nice sub-surface lacing. Faint aroma of dark berries and some brown sugar. Not that impressive but decent. Deep sugary and dry alcohol flavor. Finish is very rich and caramelly with light bitterness, heavy toasty biscuit, and dark nut. Long finish is the best part. A bit disappointing after the bold appearance, but pretty good nonetheless.
