Commercial Description:
Stormwatcher’s Winterfest is the perfect brew to savor on a stormy Oregon Coast day. Its deep amber-red color, massive toasted malt, toffee and caramel aroma, and full-bodied malty flavor lead to a smooth, soft and warming finish. The floral aroma and flavor highlights come from Hersbrucker hops in the ’06 and Mt. Hood hops in the ’07, while a toasted malt sweetness balances a mild, subtle bitterness in the finish. Its big, rich flavor makes it the ideal complement to nasty weather!

Courtesy JMFG. Pours a dark brown, with a small off white head. Smells of rich dark fruits, with some bready yeast, and dark syrupy malts. Flavor is big and bold, lots of caramel malt, hop bitterness, honey, and the fruits all combine, with a pretty intense alcohol bite. Overall, very nice barleywine, wasnt too bready and was very lively on the palate. Very nice.

JMFG. Pours a burnt mahogany color. Aroma is warm and inviting, malt forward, some dark fruits. Flavor is huge, with a nice hop bite to round it out.

Poured an almost clear dark ruby with a good sized tan head. Big fruit with raisins and prunes in the aroma. Mild-moderate sweetness with a touch of chocolate. Caramel start, chocolate middle, and dark fruit and hops finish. The sweet fruit sticks around for a good while. Very warming but no real alcohol taste. Full bodied and smooth.

Thanks to Skyview for sharing this one. Malt aroma and flavor. Bourbon in there as well, and too much of it in my opinion. Sweet, sugary flavor, with some wood as well. Too much bourbon overall.

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 10, 2009. Courtesy of Skyview. Dark red color with a thin head. Good aroma of oak and caramel. Light vegetal taste to start. Caramel malts and more vanilla from the oak. Yum.

Purchased 22-oz bomber from Pelican Pub & Brewery via internet sales and shared with MN Gathering II in Maplewood, MN. Pours a clear reddish amber brew with a very thin creamy off-white head that quickly dissolves to a clean top. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, oak wood, dark pitted black cherry, raisin and some flowery hops. Taste is full bodied with very little carbonation; with flavors of caramel malt, dark cherries, brown sugar and a touch of raisin. Finish has a high alcohol presence with a very smooth warming along with a cherry/raisin aftertaste. The one year aging did some service to this excellent barley wine for rating # 3200.

Sampled at Bob (Skyview) tasting. Thanks to whoever brought this, as this was my first beer I’ve sampled from this brewery. Envigorating aroma of caramel, cherry, port, dark fruit, and bourbon. Pretty solid beer here. A sipper at 13%, but I’m impressed.

22oz bottle shared by Skyview @ his Thrilla in Bob’s Villa Tasting. Poured into a copita glass with a dark copper color and just some lacing. Aroma is all strong, in your face with alcohol, thick sweet malts, astringent cherry as well. ICan’t hide the fact that it is a barleywine. Taste is smoother than expected for such a nasal onslaught but still too boozy with the alcohol just burning my mouth.
