Commercial Description:
Stormwatcher’s Winterfest is the perfect brew to savor on a stormy Oregon Coast day. Its deep amber-red color, massive toasted malt, toffee and caramel aroma, and full-bodied malty flavor lead to a smooth, soft and warming finish. The floral aroma and flavor highlights come from Hersbrucker hops in the ’06 and Mt. Hood hops in the ’07, while a toasted malt sweetness balances a mild, subtle bitterness in the finish. Its big, rich flavor makes it the ideal complement to nasty weather!

07 bottle, had this in October 08. Pours cloudy dark Amber/brown color with no head and minimal carbo. Sweet malty, dark fruit aroma w/ vanilla and caramel bustin through. The taste was the same. Sweet with nice malty flavors..My type of BW. Not good, Great!!

CPLYFO 09. JMFG hooks it up! Fuck yeah. This is one of the best BW’s I have ever had. Pours a deep reddish amber- mostly clear with a thin lasting head and good lace. Aroma is huge with just tons of malt and fruity esters, neither getting too over the top- well balanced- figs, prunes, raisin, pear, toffee, molasses, light hops. Hops come out a bit more in the flavor- but it is heavily skewed towards a huge smooth sweet BW- munich toasty and nutty malts, big caramel sweetness without the sharp dark stewed crystal- fruity all around, and alcohol is ridiculously hidden- I just noticed- this is 13%? wtf? I was worried it was going to be 9% with hos smoooth it was. Fuck! Awesome beer.

10/10/2009. 22oz bottle. Pours an ominous dark red... it almost wants to be brown. Rich intertwining aroma of fruitcake crusts and sherry. Reminds me of a slightly cleaner version of Thomas Hardy. Sweet sweet caramel, toffee and hint of toasted malt comes through in the viscous mouthfeel... long and meandering... followed by a well balanced subdued but moreish bitterness. A slight medicinal flashback from the alcohol warmth and malt sweetness doesn’t detract from this beer, it only throws an extra positive thought its way: it must be restorative. Perfect Sunday evening company with the kids asleep, dinner on its way and Arab Strap on the stereo.

Bottle. Severe dark brown pour with a thin broken off-white head. Rich malty aroma, peppery hops, leather, alcohol. Robust malts on the taste, a light burn on the way down, molasses, white pepper. One of the better barleywines I’ve had in the last few years.

22oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a faint reddish hue. A small beige head with spotty lacing left behind. Big nose of sweet caramel, toffee, dates, raisins and other dark fruits. Flavor was mostly toffee, caramel, prunes, raisins, dates.....much like the nose but not quite as forward. A full bodied brew with some heat in the finish.

Bottle... C&P’sLYFO Throwdown... This beer rocks!... Pours very dark – reveals a deep mahogany hue when held up to the sun – small, creamy, beige head. So-so retention. Chocolaty, vinous aroma; specifically, tawny port. Ultra full-bodied and velvety with very subtle carbonation. Big, bad, hearty flavors of charcoal, espresso, chocolate and alcohol. Bittersweet and a touch acrid. Lengthy, very warm, boozy finish. Thanks to JMFG for sharing this bottle! * * Video = http://homepage.mac.com/maltajo/RATEBEER/iMovieThe

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 10, 2009. Courtesy of Skyview. Dark red color with a thin head. Good aroma of oak and caramel. Light vegetal taste to start. Caramel malts and more vanilla from the oak. Yum.

Poured an almost clear dark ruby with a good sized tan head. Big fruit with raisins and prunes in the aroma. Mild-moderate sweetness with a touch of chocolate. Caramel start, chocolate middle, and dark fruit and hops finish. The sweet fruit sticks around for a good while. Very warming but no real alcohol taste. Full bodied and smooth.
